borrow money for this?

To send overseas to rehab Mosques?

Do you approve of this? Why or why not?

The program in question was proposed by Bill Clinton and first funded under G. W. Bush in 2001.

The money to improve World Cultural Sites has also included a number of Christian churches and has been expended on the restoration of more than one Torah. Some sites receiving funds have been at one time or another both Churches and Mosques. Depending on various turns of events the uses of the buildings has changed. Their importance to world history has not.

I have no problem with the US spending what has so far totaled less than $30,000,000 over the last eleven years.

I would be inclined to ask why this is suddenly of such concern?

Have US funds been used to rehab churches, temples or other buildings? Seems like a cheap way to build good will. I don't see a problem with it.

As to the Cairo sewer project, it was started in 1984, by Reagan, and ended in 2006, under Bush. Again, why the sudden outrage?

And for those that attach religious importance to the structures saved by this expenditure it might be worth noting that the Mosques in question were originally built to be Christian churches.

the Bamiyan statues د بامیان بوتان

I don't like it.

Who, for example, blew up those thousand of year old beautiful 6th century old Buddhist statues carved into the cliffs at Bamiyan in Afghanistan?

No I don't approve of it. We don't NEED to promote good will. What we NEED to do is STOP sending ANY more money overseas until we have our budget under control. Even THEN, NOT sending money overseas would be a good way to KEEP our budget under control.

Remember, this is BORROWED money.

Boy, those payments have worked wonders!

Typical government waste. No surprise that Bush's name is attached to it.

I can only imagine the reaction if that same money was being spent on restoring religious institutions in this country (which I would also see as govt money mis-spent).

I would agree. I see no reason to spend public money to restore religious buildings. If Christianity is viewed as "culture", it is worthless. To paraphrase the Bible--If Salt loses it flavor, it is useless---. If all that remains of a church is the empty shell of the building, then tear it down.

Me neither. Tejas should just let the Alamo melt into the ground.

Yes, anyone thinking that the building is the "Church" is most definitely missing the point.

I agree that I would be just as opposed to the money going to rebuild Churches and other religious buildings in this country.

Have any of the politicians voting for such spending, noticed that we are $16T in debt?

Well, I don't know if it is still the case, but in the past it was a private, charitable organization that maintained the Alamo and it was NOT done with tax money. I think the organization was named something like "Daughters of the Republic" or something like that.

If there is now any tax money going to the Alamo, it should cease IMHO.

There may be little real choice as a lot of it looks like bribery or enabling money. This particular type carrot enables or purchases much influence out in the wide world. Buying influence is too expensive for north america currently I agree but perhaps unavoidable.

I think another perspective is money is no longer quite what it was. I do not mean just the inflationary changes. The mediums underlying structural basis has been or is still shifting rapidly.

Money has been printed like mad from 2008 on. This to me means the old standards of what we expect it to be based on may be going the way of the dinosar. I hope our personal assets are not being viewed as a back up pool to provide some worth for the dollar. Yet instinct kind of seems they might be. There are many ways to get at them by a government with intent to do so.

Otherwise it is just printing paper period at this point. Is it simular to 1929 in the overall ramifications is one question? The stock was worthless but they kept up the illusion till the house of card came down. Do we really have foreign debt or do we just print enough paper to cover it? How inflation responds to the current type activity and period is going to be the best bellweather for the average guy.

Can't wait to see the day when the US and US organizations send back the money that other nations sent to us for disaster relief.
