what is the big deal with Michigans right to work vote

What is the big deal with this? In my opinion, every worker should have the option to not to be a member of the union if they do not want to be a member. Other than the loss of the union dues (to keep the union officials Gulfstreams flying) what is the big deal?

Texas has been right to work for many years. The effect on Unions there has been slight.

Oklahoma voters passed right to work some ten years ago. The effect on Unions there has been non-existant.

At issue in MI is the fact that the Governor ran on a promise to protect Unions. The current Lame Duck session has provided Republicans with a way to pass the law while not facing an upcoming election.

I have run projects with Union workers and without them, and the difference in cost is noticeable. But then, so is the difference in the quality of the work.

You get what you pay for.

Looks to me like the biggest issue is the way in which the law change was undertaken. Pretty sneaky if you ask me.

Only a fool believes a politician's promise. Such a promise is only effective as long as there is a need to keep it that way. IOW we are friends until I get a better offer.

I suppose it would depend on whether both the teams were sufficiently qualified or not. So if you hired a bunch of union electricians and turned around and hired a bunch of non-union people that posed as electricians only, you could be right. What I want to know is whether you see a difference between 2 licensed people, one union and 1 non-union. So lets say you talk of 2 RNs. One union and 1 non union but both with RN licenses. What is the difference?

My personal example was when the union shop charged me more than twice to do a job because they needed 2 people since the length of the pipe was over a certain number by a foot or two. $750 to the non union $350 bid. Both had the same footage and materials. The union shop told me outright that because it was over that number, it took 2 people so I should pay for twice the pipe foot rate. Didn't take me long to tell him "Thanks but I'll go with the first quote.".

I'm asking. Why do you think it was sneaky? Did you mean it was sneaky like the way most laws are done or more sneaky than usual?

Appears so, so there must be no objection to either laws passage.
