I finally found the proper replacement...
It's taken me almost 2 years to find the proper replacement watch band to this old Timex. My mom gave this to me in January of 2011, just a month after dad passed away. He wore it since 1978, alternating the watch between two different bands. I know which was his favorite, as it's the most worn out band between the two.
Anyway, after making sure the watch still worked, which it did, I started wearing it daily. The band that was his favorite started to show it's age rather quickly, tearing a bit more at the small tears that were already there. I stopped at many watch stores, leather shops, and biker shops, looking for the band, but nobody had it. I even called around to tack shops to see about having one made for me...but the price was more than I was willing to pay. Saturday, I followed a link to a biker shop called Rude Dog Leather which is located in Chapparal, NM looking for leather tassels for my brother's HD as a Christmas gift. While there, I followed their link to watch bands. The second band they showed was it. It looked to be nearly identical to the one dad used and loved for all those years. The $10.50 price was low enough that I felt comfortable in losing it if the band came in and was deemed a cheap POS. It came in pretty swiftly, being mailed out on Monday, and getting it today... The first picture is the old Timex watch he wore, and below that is a side by side picture of both bands. The only difference is the old one was dark brown that turned black with grime and sweat over the years and had painted snaps, the new one is considered black, and has silver snaps. Other than that, it's identical. ![]() ![]() After seeing they were the same, I went ahead and bought another for my son, to match the old wind up Timex I found for him on Ebay. The new watch is the gold tone version of the one mom gave me. This should keep his grubby little fingers off of my watch...I hope.
