CT Shooting...

Police Respond To Report Of School Shooting In Newtown, Conn. « CBS New York

Quote:
Twenty-seven people are dead including 14 children after a gunman opened fire at an elementary school in Newtown, CBS News reports. Officials say the gunman was also killed and apparently had two guns. It happened around 9:40 a.m. Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
At least three people were injured, two children and an adult. All three were taken to Danbury Hospital.
An 8-year-old student told CBS 2′s Lou Young he was on his way to the school’s office when he saw the gunman.
“I saw some of the bullets going down the hall and then a teacher pulled me into her classroom,” he said.
Police believe there may be a second gunman and are looking for a red or maroon van with its back window blown out, 1010 WINS’ Al Jones reported. Two guns have reportedly been recovered

I might be dealing with an understanding of laws that have since been changed.

That said, the last time I checked, it was COMPLETELY legal to sell guns among individuals. If it was a gun previously registered when purchased new, the seller and buyer are supposed to record each others contact information.

Also, what makes a particular rifle an "assault rifle" or "sniper rifle?" Any rifle can be used for either of these purposes.

Are you under the impression that gun laws will save lives? If so, you might consider this; BEFORE there were any significant gun laws, we had WAY less shootings, almost NONE, by idiots such as the guy last week. Guns are incapable of killing people on their own. Guns are not the problem. Today's SICK society is the problem.

I disagree that this is a new problem. There always have been sick violent people. When Frank Lloyd Wright lived in Wisconsin he had a handy man who got upset with things and set the main house on fire, then stood at the only exit door with an ax hacking people down as they came out. Of course if he had had an assault rifle he could have killed 30 instead of 6....quicker and more effficient.

So am I. You missed the point. Any gun can be used for either purpose. Outlawing particular types of guns accomplishes virtually nothing.

The problem in and of itself is as old as mankind. The problem has CLEARLY escalated in its frequency and magnitude correlating with the rapidly accelerating societal decadence.

I could argue just as strongly that our instant communication around the world makes the problem more apparent than it used to be.

Military markings?? If that's all you've got as an argument, you've lost the battle. I have weapons with military markings from all over the world, yet they aren't assault weapons...and some of the models were used as sniper rifles. Those "military markings" include arsenal marks from Soviet Russia, Romania, England and China, just to name a few.

Military markings don't meant squat.
