More stringent gun control won't stop this from happening...take the guns away, and they'll go for knives. Take the knives away, and they'll go for bats. It doesn't take much for some people to go off the deep end, but there will always be a way for death and destruction to happen.

You think the guy could have killed 27 people in ten minutes with a bowie knife?

Why does an elementary school have six or seven garage doors?

There is a fire station right across the street that many kids were evacuated to, that might be what you saw? I'm not sure.

Not once, not twice, but thrice was informed...I think that's a record.

I'm not even a dad and I'm reeling from it.

At some level of abstraction I suppose I can comprehend becoming so hopeless that suicide seems a "rational" choice. But why such people must go on a rampage and kill a bunch of innocent people -- and particularly small children -- is just utterly incomprehensible.

And in a small town like that, the holidays are going to forever be marred by this tragedy.

Can't we allow the grief to subside before we all start politicizing this tragedy. It is a freaking tragedy--not an opportunity!

very sad indeed. my prayers go out to all of the families. theres way too many crazies out there. unfortunately, gun control will not solve any of this.

article i read said that he had a glock, and a sig pistol. yet, just down the way, they were already talking about the need for an assault weapon ban.

SwampYankee 12-14-2012 02:31 PM

Latest report is the shooter's mother was the teacher of the classroom targeted.

Dammit, WHY THE KIDS???!? :( :( :(

the difference is, none of those people are dead

I agree, its not the weapons, its the crazy person who is the problem here, however, there is definitely an argument to be made for modification of rules which give a crazy person access to the correct tool for the job.

This is a nightmare.

too late, these types of disasters are always entertwined with peoples closely held personal beliefs. You notice it was politicized page one already.

Do we yet know if the weapons were even registered to this person? Maybe yes, maybe not. If not, then how did he get them? Was he even within the law to possess them?

To many questions have yet to be answered before you can bring gun control and restrictions into play...

My intention was simply to point out that a guy attacking 20+ children in China with a knife and killing no one is a hell of a big difference from a guy attacking and killing a similar number with a firearm.

You cannot use the Chinese example as an argument in response to Kuans point was basically what I was pointing out. It really just reinforces what he was saying in the first place.

Hence, the oft cited advice about not bringing a knife to a gunfight.
