At Least 20 Shot, Multiple Dead at Sandy Hook School Shooting in Newtown

27 dead including 18 children reported. The number keeps growing as the updates come out.

I'm not sure what you're saying, panZZer. As a dad, this is hitting me hard. I can't imagine becoming numb to a school shooting. :(

I can't even listen to the news. As a parent I feel I'm in this with the other parents.

I'm cancelling Christmas.

I just had dinner in Sandy Hook around the corner from this school last week and was at the time commenting on how nice the area looked at night. :(

I'm keeping a very close eye on this. I've been reading comments to news stories and am amazed at just how fast many were to blame firearms, instead of the moron holding the gun.

More stringent gun control won't stop this from happening...take the guns away, and they'll go for knives. Take the knives away, and they'll go for bats. It doesn't take much for some people to go off the deep end, but there will always be a way for death and destruction to happen.

News reports are claiming that an entire kindergarten class is missing...

Why does an elementary school have six or seven garage doors?

I was watching the History Channel's story of us series (yeah, I know, dumbed down and sped up, but it has value IMO) and they claimed that the Chinese also invented the firearm (long after inventing gunpowder) somewhere in the 1300s IIRC. They used it to drive out the Mongols whose warfare skills bases on horses and archery had long dominated. Also claimed that this invention spread throughout the world faster than any other.

Something with that kind of power to alter the course of destiny is unlikely to be suppressed. There is something about holding a firearm that gives power or a believable illusion of it to the bearer that can be a serious problem, to be sure.

Not sure this genie is going to be stuffed back into the bottle.
