Or, like many people I know, have to sell them to make the house payment, insurance payment, or put food on the table.

I brokered a deal between a guy I used to work with and my brother this weekend for a Springfield Armory Range Officer 1911. The guy needed to make his car payment, and my brother just happened to have $400 cash burning a hole in his pocket...guy keeps car, brother gets a hell of a deal on a really nice .45 that would otherwise cost him at least twice that amount.

I built one a couple of years ago... I highly recommend Bill Springfield for the trigger group/lower parts kit. He did great work on mine. I also used a Spikes Tactical tungsten buffer. For some upper goodness I put in a chrome plated m16 bcg from Spikes. Also had the Eotech 512. It was a fantastic weapon; I hated to sell it.

ouch... hope I never reach a point where I have to sell things to make payments on other things....

Guess that's why my DD is a 32 year old 300SD....:D

To big, I can run an Aimpoint on the European guns, the Eotech is to wide and will take a chunk out of my finger when I charge a Sig or Scar.

Eotech is designed for rear charging, ie AR's.

It has 50 rounds through it. Got it for a debt owed.

Anyone interested? It will go for the right offer.

Sadly I can't own anything with AR15 stamped on it, they have to call it something else.

I'm buying a Stag 15 lower.

AWB nonsense.

Build your first one to specs. It's amazing how good they can be. Do some research and find a quality kit. Learn it inside and out before you modify it.

Buy the armourer's guide and the barrel tool. Bushmaster had some good parts and tools years ago. Some of the Colt parts are a little different but you probably won't see those anyway.

I haven't built one for 15 years but it's easy if you take the time to learn as you go. Look at how it works and make sure springs don't bind, etc.

I recently thought about buying some lowers and didn't. Receivers were well under a hundred bucks before TSHTF.

Read about barrel twist and bullet weight. Wouldn't hurt to have some stripper clips, magazines and ammo even if you don't find a deal on parts. The gun outlasts the gunner.

More likely than not I'm going to buy a complete upper with the bolt and everything, probably from LMT, CMMG, or Noveske.

I just need to build the lower and those parts are actually not crazy at the moment and available. As for uppers I'm going to have to wait probably until next year when things calm down.:(

Your lucky to find an AR lower. Here in CA they are all but gone. I called a shop about a week ago. They had a DPMS lower for sale. I asked them to hold it one day, because I would be on that side of town the next day with a co worker. My co worker called the same shop and payed them over the phone for a Stag lower.

We get to the shop the next day... The owner of the shop claims to have never got my request to hold the lower and sold it. He tells my co worker that he had also sold his lower and offered him a refund.

Hatterasguy 01-04-2013 08:01 PM

Yeah they are hard to get here as well. Every gun company pretty much sold their entire 2013 production in a week!

I was at my usual gun store the other day and the owner got a call from someone looking for an AR, his response was "America's run out!"

SirNik84 01-04-2013 08:10 PM

Seriously, After my trip to the gun store I was talking to my mom in San Antonio, and she told me that a guy in her office was having the same problems, I told her "We've all got problems if Texas has run out of guns!"

AR15, Stag stripped lower receiver : Semi Auto Rifles at GunBroker.com

I have my lower, now my EBR build can commence!

It still burns me that I paid $305 for a part I could have gotten a month ago for $135, but whatever. I have a feeling in CT at least its my last chance to get one without spending $900 on a pre ban.

All the AR companies are sold out as of right now until next year...

$305 isn't bad if you play it right. I paid almost that much for one back in one of the Clinton inspired gun control scares. Built it and later traded that gun for a 68 Mustang. Pretty cool car, ac and mostly original. Sold it for a nice profit after I played with it for a while.

My standard for an AR build was to consistently hit a target at 100yrds that I couldn't see with my naked eye.

Hatterasguy 01-05-2013 01:34 PM

Kind of hope that's how it works, although I might not sell this one.

I'm going to take my time over the next year and get the parts, I want to use the best and lightest I can get. I want to do more research into the AR platform first.

My biggest complaint with all the modern rifles is all the crap people tack on to them and before you know it you have a 10lb gun. The theme for this build is going to be light weight. Danial Defense has an upper I like that's pretty light but its still a combat upper and not a target one. I already know I'm going to put a light on the front and an Aimpoint on the top, other than that its a KISS rifle.

Right here, only thing I might want them to change is the barrel to 18in. I think I might go longer on this riffles barrel. The 5.56 round especially the heavy 70 grain plus ones they are loading these days seem to better with as long of a barrel as you can get.

It's not just AR's and their black ilk. I have almost no interest in that type of gun but have noticed the prices on just about everything that I normally would look at creeping up steadily over the last few weeks. Especially used guns where dealers can ask whatever they want as there are no price guidelines from manufacturers to work off of.

Actually now is a good time to pick up some C&R guns and 1911's. No one is buying 1911's!

Gunbroker right now has about 4 SVT40's on it for under $1k, I don't think I have seen a selection that good in a long time.

Everyone is spending their money on EBR's, so now is the time to buy collectable firearms.

If I had some spare cash lying around I'd buy one of those SVT40's, a couple were early war construction to, one a Fin capture.

If I had money I'd be buying lots of things as well. Unfortunately I've had to hemorrhage almost three thousand bucks on suburb nazi required yard work and unintended vehicle repair over the last month and am literally flat broke. Sucks big time. On a possibly positive note, I came across a Czech 98/22 mauser in a local store with an asking price of 400 bucks on it. I have two of those which I payed 150 and 90 for respectively about ten years ago so assuming that this (ridiculous in my opinion) asking price is currently realistic it means mine have undergone a nice increase in value over the years.

Not that I'm about to sell them any time soon of course.
