Question Coffee and Caffeine Alternatives?

I've just been diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus. Barrett's esophagus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As part of the treatment, I can no longer consume coffee or anything with caffeine. This stinks!!! I've been a coffee lover for many years and hate the idea of giving up my favorite drink. I even have a $900 La Pavoni espresso machine that I use several times a week. It's taken years to perfect the skill of preparing and "pulling" a perfect shot. Never again.....

Anyone here drink a coffee/caffeine alternative that works as a good alternative? My wife gave me a cup of some kind of coffee alternative yesterday. It was made from wheat and tasted like cardboard that had been dipped in day old decaf-- because it's not coffee!!

I'm waiting for a sampler pack of Teeccino to arrive now. Teeccino Caffeine-Free Herbal Coffee

Nothing approaches the taste of coffee so there's no point trying to replicate it. Make a clean break.
Coca leaf tea. Amazon has it.
Long as you don't have to pass a urine test.

I think you're right-- I'm just holding out hope... I told my wife this morning that there's little sense in drinking something that simply tastes like bad coffee, which would just make missing it more difficult. I'm thinking a good herbal tea or something. But it'll never be the same...

Making the switch to juice as your morning routine instead of coffee helped my mother kick that habit...but it wasn't easy. Get rid of all cups that you used to drink coffee from, to include the machine, and anything else associated with it...it will make it easier.

I hope as my stomach/esphagus get better that I may be able to enjoy a cup now and then. It's an early stage of the condition and people live like this their entire lives. But it's considered "precancerous" so one must be careful.

So I'm not selling my machine quite yet!

Good luck with the Teeccino. Darling Wife & I will partake on occasion - I rather like the Java made strong, she prefers the French Roast.

I took about 6 months off from coffee. There was a headache for a couple of days. After that I drank herbal teas. Try some and find something you like.

After about 6 months or so I started drinking 1 cup o joe a day and mostly stick to that. After taking some time off from coffee you can tell how much of a punch a cup packs. It’s impressive!

Stopping for a while went a long way to solving chronic acid reflux, which is one of the key things that can lead to Barrett's esophagus...

Coffee is my drug of choice for many years now but I quit it temporarily from time to time and am going to again soon. Make that now. If you cut back to a cup in the morning and a cup in the afternoon then water down the one in the afternoon then quit it. So on, it seems to help me. Watered down coffee is quite good when you are kicking the habit. Sorta homeopathic.

You have to treat it like an addiction and treat addiction like it is just a human trait and not an illness. In other words, just deal with it.

Stress type vitamins might help some while you are tapering off.

You can try Beyond Coffee. Ellis Percy makes it. Good guy.

If coffee is giving stomach troubles /concerns the silver bullet is regular shots of cranberry juice with a teaspoon of raw vinegar.
