Friend is trying to quite smoking and lose weight thru hypnosis. IMO, it is a bunch of hooey designed to separate the fool and his money. Anyone ever tried it?

More specifically, is it dangerous? How long does the effect last? Is it permanent? How do you protect yourself from the practitioner from say implanting some naughty thoughts into you?
