As long as you weren't doing anything loud (Grinding down metal or something.) I really don't see how it could be unacceptable. I wonder which neighbor was looking out the window at 2:00 am....

the motor had not been run since around 10:30.........after that it was a garden hose and some hand tools, no talking, no music, no banging, no one else here, etc......

oh and i know who called, its the neighbor to the left, who, even though he's about 30 years younger than her, is having a feud with my grandmother......all started when he built a fence and part of it is on her yard......drama

oh well, i can be a dick too, next time his countrywestern crap is blaring so loudly that it's echoing back to us from across the 300ft canal and the whole neighborhood can hear it, I'LL call the cops, see how he likes it !

no one ever bothers anyone around here.......i am the exception to the rule......even though i have neighborhood seniority.......we were the first and only house down here back in 83, and it stayed like that for years......only in the past 10 years did all the yuppies move in and take over......now they think they dictate to me what i do in my neighborhood.....

In Long Beach, CA it is illegal to work on your Car on the Street. However, this does not seem to be inforced. At least not in the residential area I live in.
Cities sometimes have odd laws.
I don't know if it is still true but in Buena Park, CA several years argo you were not allowed to drive one of those 3 or 4 wheeled Electric Scooters that have replaced Elelctric Wheel Chairs on the Side Walk or on the Street.
But, you could use and Electric Wheel Chair.

I could see on the street since people have left vehicles in dangerous positions or put themselves in dangerous positions when doing it. Also, I have seen idiots drain their fluids on the road. I suspect that it isn't enforced when there are no issues. OTOH, when you start making a racket at night or dumping oil on the street, they might break out the ticket book. When wrenching, I usually do it in the garage which is why I installed a heater for winter wrenching.

Also technically illegal in NY. Never had a cop ticket me (though it did happen to someone else on the Diesel forum in a gentrifying part of Brooklyn). Did have one cop stop and offer help/advice, which was pretty cool.

In the Down Town area there is a lot of Apartment Buildings and none of them have a Parking Lot for the Tenants.

But, in theory there is no place in the City of Long Beach where an those Apartment Tenants could do and Oil Change or a tune up on your Car.

From what I have seen in My residential area they will allow you to do something as extensive as a Brake Job out on the Street if the Car is safely supported; and, not bother you.

It might be that over on the richer side of Town someone would complain
