For one thing, OS X isn't deliberately gimped by the vision of an ill old man. Unlike (say) iOS.

What issues are you having with iPhone? I have a 3GS and a 4S, the wife has a 5. No issues with the hardware. On the software side, Maps is poor replacement for Google Maps, but the turn by turn GPS has worked well in the areas I've used it.

Its so dang laggy. I just did a reset this morning. google has maps out now.

You should give the Windows Phone platform a look. I had a HTC Trophy with Windows Phone 7 on it. Consistently smooth performance from the day I got it to the day I upgraded to a HTC 8X with Windows Phone 8.

I've no complaints on either phone software or hardware.

Android. Open-open-open. Not gimped-gimped-gimped.

I never cared much for Android. Its developed nicely since it first arrived but I never was much attracted to it.

Apple's interface is too reminiscent of a desktop computer. And it really hasnt changed much since they brought it out. At least Android has changed and expanded on...

Open does not always mean better. Its largely on how you use it and what you want to do with it. I just email, text, surf the web. I don't need my phone to do everything under the sun, nor do i need an app for everything. I am usually within a few feet of a computer 85% of the time anyway.

Just like bigger screens on phone doesnt mean better. I saw a Samsung phone with a 5.5" display.. It was crazy large and unwieldy.

Work standardized on the iPhone (for smartphone users) a few years ago. I kept my current Samsung Jack rather than upgrading at the time, and then managed to convince my boss to let me try a Windows phone. I went with the Nokia 920 (same price through our contract as the iPhone) and have been very pleased with it, although like all modern smartphones (the iPhone included) battery life could be better. It's a larger platform (not as bad as the Samsung Note) but the extra size is nice for many things.

I wish swype would release a version for the Windows phone, I have that on my personal smartphone (LG through Virgin Mobile) and really appreciate it.

All of that to say that if you're not charmed by the iPhone, you should indeed consider a Windows smartphone, depending on your personal needs.

I just saw on a Swype forum that WP8 doesn't support it.

There are more than a few companies that only approve of iOS devices. I hear that some are even dropping RIM.

Dare I say I wouldnt mind going back to my Blackberry?

I know of a company that is dropping smartphones altogether - and just paying its employees a set stipend for them to get their own data plan.

This company has a lot of blackberries right now, and I think they just want to get rid of the BB overhead (BES, admin costs etc...).

Had the same issue with mine. Had it replaced (free of charge) atleast once a year for 3 years. Glad that pos is gone. The desktop is next. Ill never buy another apple pc again. For about the same cost i can build a screming fast machine with dual 23" monitors.
