Does any truly believe that Android sales are being driven more by features of its OS than price points and number of models? Likewise, I don't believe that iOS device sales are particularly price sensitive, being a luxury brand.

Certainly, lack of lockdown hasn't hurt sales any. Most people don't even know that Android can use other app sources. But at the same time, Google isn't extorting 3 grand for people to have that choice. If MS had made it free after clicking through a disclaimer and waiting 30 sec, I'd be much less enraged about it.

As it is, shame on Jobs for starting that trend. Wonder if he's enjoying ol' Mr. Scratch's hospitality down there.

iOS hasnt changed much, interface wise, since it came out. Last I saw, Android was #1 selling, #2 was Windows Phone.

Cracks to get around the MS store requiredness? Can you link me to these license fees you're talking about?

For most end users, open source-ness is not very important.

To me, on a phone platform, its a non-issue. I just want my phone to work well and reliably. I had an HTC Windows Phone 7 for two year that never had any problem, nor did performance degrade. I upgraded a HTC 8X last month.

I have a few friends with Android phones, one is always complaining about it doing odd/weird things and whenever an update is pushed out, something else is broken.

Frankly, I think the Android interface is tired and aged as well. Its a considerable step up from the Apple iOS interface but they are similar in concept/design.

Google "Enterprise Sideloading Licence Windows 8". There are also less legit ways around the requirement -- bless Allah for buggy MS software.

LOL I know about that. I was the one that posted it up a few pages ago.
I thought you were referring to a different way.

The two ways I am aware of:
-Enterprise Windows 8
-Developer License for Windows 8

Which I've not seen cost data for either of these

(3) Sideloading license for Windows 8 that allows you to sideload on RT Pro and Pro. Only sold in packs of 100 for $30 per seat.
(4) wsservice_crk (best solution, since it gives exactly $0 to the pigf**kers in Redmond)

Do you have a link for the pricing info #3? My quick google search was not helpful.

Not offhand, but the links I found seemed to say $30 per device, or 25 ukp, minimum order of 100 licenses. (Of course, two or three organizations could probably split an order if it came down to it.)

Recent report on smartphone sales:

Lower Sales for Smartphones

In the fourth quarter of 2012, Apple and Samsung together raised their worldwide smartphone market share to 52 percent from 46.4 percent in the third quarter of 2012. Samsung ended the year in the No. 1 position, in both worldwide smartphone sales and overall mobile phone sales.
