Not speeding is my way of getting back at municipalities.

There are a couple where I drive 15 mph in the downtown area past every cop. One stopped me once and threatened to give me a ticket.

I told him:

"27 years with no ticket.
Me in an unknown area with no speed limits and pedestrians jaywalking between cars, which you, BTW, are NOT ticketing because the fine is only 25.00.

I'm the same age as the judge.

Do you really want to waste your time on FAILED revenue enhancement?"

He gave me a dirty look and let me go.

That's NJ law as well. For any minor moving violation (i.e. not DUI or reckless) you can plead to "unsafe driving" pretty much automagically. $400 fine whereas the actual ticket would have been about $100, no points off your license.

There is a law to make this efficient, if you fight the fine and go to court it will be much higher if you lose. It is very hard to win, since you have to prove you didn’t speed.

Luckily it has no consequences for the insurance, also we have no point system for licences (only for the first 5 years you have your licence).

Here, we have a right to face our accusers in court...even if it's a police officer. I have been able to get out of tickets in the past because the officer didn't show up in court to defend the ticket he handed to me.

Our traffic violation fines are so inflated in Nova Scotia the police do not want to hand them out. Or they will charge you with something of a much lesser dollar penalty. Kind of understood it is for our own good and I cannot see some idiot contesting it although he could win.

There after I would never venture into that area if one where stupid enough to try this. Usually they just write a warning. I have aquired a couple of these.

There were signs posted along the ontario highways in Canada of up to something like 10k dollars for excessive speeding. Even 20 kilometers or 12 mile per hour over the limit was substantial.

That also reminds me of once late 80's between LasVegas and Laughlin NV going 100+ in a rent a car got stopped, trooper asked how come so fast and my answer was I was going to a Slappy White show in Vegas and didn't want to be late. All I got was a wasting energy warning, others I spoke to said that they never used to ticket out of towners as they did not want to compete with the casinos for the cash.

Thats not always the case. I have a customer who operates a dump truck. He is constantly getting tickets by DPS for something or another. If its here in Helotes, a small city, he elects trial by jury. They always drop the case because they have to pay an attorney. If its in San Antonio, he pays it. They have a staff of attorneys and he wont win.

I got a speeding ticket in Oregonia, Ohio many years ago. I thought I was going to fight it, until I saw that it was a circuit judge, and court was held at a folding table in the basement locker room of the local school. I was 18 at the time, and had my mother with me. We both were laughing the entire time at the cop who pulled me over...The guy was also acting as the bailiff for the circuit judge. He stood in the corner with his hair greased down, looking like Alfalfa from Our Gang...had his shirt buttoned to the top, no tie, and a hitler style patch of hair on his upper lip.

I plead no contest, paid the fine, and vowed to never drive through that area again. $120 total, and I was on my way.

Texas = awesome. Jury trial for a speeding ticket. I'd love to be picked for such a jury, just so I can vote "no" on someone that obviously guilty as sin and basically tell the cop to go hang himself.
