Good advice. I am also paying for my 19 year old son's car, and GEICO's rate for him has always been best. I am going to look up Erie, is it possible they are regional and unavailable in some states? Or are they agent only? They don't show up for me on those quote aggregation sites.

I do not know if Amica OR Erie has agents. Amica has a regional office in Frisco, Texas, about an hour's drive from where I reside.

I heard about Amica listening to the Clarke Howard radio show out of Atlanta, Georgia, and I heard/read of Erie online somewhere by word of mouth.

Geico, Allstate, Nationwide, and State Farm all advertise so much, they are the ones to watch with scrutiny to jack your rates because of you getting comfortable as a "loyal" customer. Believe me, none of them are your friend or loyal to you if you start having claims.

As a follow-up to my last post - companies that do show-up on these aggregation sites, are probably there because they pay to be there.

Erie and Amica may not be interested in spending the bucks it takes to advertise there.

I transacted the switch from Nationwide to Amica on my Mercedes-Benz over the telephone with an Amica agent. I provided all the info the tele-rep asked for, including my DL number and my current insurance company's name and policy number. I have a hunch that if you are already insured with another carrier - then the new carrier will be happy to execute a change over the phone without any more than your need to send-in a picture of the vehicle, or a drive-by to see that your car isn't already damaged. With Amica, all I had to do was provide them with a FAX of my defensive driver's safety course completion less than 3 years old to get the defensive drivers discount. If you have no insurance in place, then they may need to see the vehicle in person.
