Those were the days when you would come home from the office smelling like you've been at a bar.
Is anybody's job still like that?

The first season of the show was set in 1960.

Great show. I worked on wall street during the 90s and in our offices drinking was normal, even expected. No smoking though. And no one at all like big RED...!

I think the writing is pretty good, though I remember the 60s pretty well and couldn't say whether people smoked as much as it seems to be depicted in the show.

My mother smoked, a lot, but never in social situations unless it was a bar. She just wouldn't have blown smoke around people that didn't smoke. As I recall smokers asked if anyone minded before lighting up if indoors.

The year seems not so obvious. There was a part where they talked about seeing Hair, which opened on Broadway in the late 60's.

It started in 1962 and follows actual events of the 60's. Right now its 1968 and the Tet Offensive is going on along with the Pueblo incident.

Not much has changed since the 90s in that regard, thankfully ... one of the awesome things about NYC vs the rest of America is the distinct lack of Puritanism in workplace culture. Smoking in some offices isn't unheard of either, but generally with windows open/doors closed.

(And actually, there's the cute awkwardly tall red-haired Bulgarian chick who works next door to one of my clients and keeps chatting me up in the elevator -- it started when she heard me speaking Russian over the phone, perhaps I should ask her to lunch next time I'm there.)

I had no idea that the presidential election between Nixon and Kennedy was in 1962.

I tried watching it but my memories of that time are still very clear. It was like watching any normal day.

I do remember people smoking that much.
