Got Rearended

On the way to work today, heavy traffic. The line of cars in front of me came to a sudden stop. I stopped in time. The guy behind me and the guy behind him didn't. My left rear took a hit. NHP investigated. Insurance guy is coming to look at it tomorrow.

Was the person behind you yapping or texting? If yes, then their rear needs a hit ... from a steel toed boot :)

Liability is clear, it's their fault; but....

If it's a w123 with 325k on it, then it's totaled.

Go see a doctor in a few days. Whether or not you're hurt, it should be checked out.

Better to have the MD visit(s) direct billed, and your car rental too - easier NOT to go through your insurance, but through theirs....not ONE cent out of pocket for you - this would include your car rental for your loss of use.

I hope you are not hurt; and your car rental is good incentive for them to settle quick.

Do NOT settle the claim - or sign away anything, including the car, till you are certain it's fair.

And remember, any injury, even if slight, entitles you to an amount for pain and suffering, though of course the adverse insurance adjuster likely won't remind you of this.

Best wishes and good luck.

The guy who hit me, the guy who hit him, and myself all have the same insurance company. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Also, does anybody know a good body shop in the Carson City/Reno/Sparks area?

It's a bad thing because it'll be a cooked deal at the end of the day. You cannot sue yourself. :D

I was rear-ended by a teenaged bint from Pennsyltucky at the foot of the billy-burg Bridge. Epic fail #1: bint comes out of her car still yapping on her cell phone and ADMITS rear-ending me because she was "looking something up" on her iLeash. Fail #2: "my dad's a railroad cop from (Podunk, PA)."

"Well, you're not in Pennsyltucky anymore, Dorothy. Now click your heels and GTFO of my sight before I call some real cops and Daddy has to come pay your bail. You're lucky you hit my car and didn't run over a pedestrian!" (there was no serious damage to my car, only to hers, but it was nice to see her dumb ass on the verge of crying.)

I don't know, I was too busy paying attention to not rearending the car in front of me.

Sorry, no pics. I'm going to buy one of those fancy phones that takes pictures right after my old one dies. It's been 3 1/2 years since I bought it, so it shouldn't take too much longer.

Sorry to hear that, I'm glad you're okay.

Jim has good advice.

That's why the Pope can't drive in the US.......he rear ended some young kid last time he was here.....

Er seriously Skippy I hope you are OK - I too have had the privilege of some one driving into the back of my car. When it happened I dragged the silly little tart out of her car...

...but a day afterwards I could feel the whiplash - it took a long time to get better. Several months of sleepless nights - I consider myself to be lucky. Some people are stuck with whiplash related problems for a lot longer.

The odds of 3 cars in a wreck all with the same insurance company is VERY rare, and in the industry it is called A "CROSS-INSURED LOSS"

In such cases, any vehicle with collision coverage will have its policyholder/owner's collision deductible waived.

Obviously, (ALL ELSE BEING EQUAL) the claim will be handled more quickly.

I believe your right to pain and suffering is not altered by the fact it is a cross insured loss, if you were injured.
