Frankly, I'll offend a lot of people by saying this, but he should get a sentence of life WITH possibility of parole after 20-25 years if convicted (which is why I'd rather see a state-level trial as opposed to Federal). He's young, relatively intelligent, and doesn't sound like an actual psychopath. Ergo, a prime candidate for rehabilitation. None of the people convicted of terrorism during the 60s went on to re-offend after release.

Come to think of it, we released Nazis who were convicted of doing much worse than he did from Spandau. We released Al Capone, who was responsible for much more death and mayhem than this little schmuck. And ultimately, a sentence "with parole" doesn't actually guarantee parole. It's up to the governor and/or parole board in the end.

spdrun, I think he'd need to stand trial and show remorse for his crime, while also proving to the jury that he was merely an instrument and not actually making decisions.

I would find it hard to believe he was not involved in decision making.

May I suggest that in order to honor his commitment to his faith, we should provide him with a slow beheading (after all limbs have been chopped so he feels the pain he caused his victims).

I'm sorry, but this guy is a pig.

Many Nazis (and Imperialist Japanese) were hanged following trial by the Allied Forces. No telling how many the French, Polish, and Soviets killed without trial. Probably not a good choice of models.

Family members are not the only ones expressing doubt.

Many Twitter users have been expressing support for Dzhokhar using the hashtag #freejahar.

And just like the conspiracy theorists who claimed last week that the Boston Marathon attacks were staged, the support for Dzhokhar has been fervent despite his reported confession.

A Change.org petition to "guarantee Dzhokhar Tsarnaev the right to a fair trial," addressed to President Barack Obama, has more than 6,000 supporters.

"We believe that within the chaos caused by the Boston Marathon explosion, two young men were wrongfully accused of something they did not do, and one of them has lost his life before even getting the opportunity of a proper trial," Anita Temisheva, the user who launched the petition, wrote. "We do not wish to see blood of yet another innocent victim, someone who, by U.S. law, is innocent until proven guilty. It is vital to end this persecution, as all the conflicting information shown by the media, and footage from the incident, seen by people from all corners of the world, doesn't manifest itself as enough evidence to condemn Dzhokhar Tsarnaev of this heinous crime."

I find it interesting that the minority views get so many laws passed and petitions granted while the majority views get ignored maybe we should start a petition for the opposite of life with chance of parole ie. death penalty. Not cruel and unusual but perchance firing squad

Firing squad is an honorable death for a soldier. Hanging is not.

For the crimes involved, and considering the pre-meditated intent to murder, maim and terrorize:

I have a mental image of a convicted terrorist, chained on a medieval rack.

Nearby, a hooded man sharpening an axe.

Piece by piece.

Slowly.

"If it be admitted that a man possessing absolute power may misuse that power by wronging his adversaries, why should not a majority be liable to the same reproach? Men do not change their characters by uniting with one another; nor does their patience in the presence of obstacles increase with their strength. For my own part, I cannot believe it; the power to do everything, which I should refuse to one of my equals, I will never grant to any number of them."
Alexis de Tocqueville

I disagree. Think he sounds exactly like a psycho.

You have to have some problem past the average norm to get involved in anything like this. Part of that disorder would be an inadaquate functioning concience. Could be somewhat cultural in certain societies. Those with long histories of fighting perhaps.

Shooting and killing the officer is easily proven with ballistics so there would be no doubt. Having weapons and firing at other police is another indicator of innocence.

Car jacking a vehicle and throwing random explosive devices from the vehicle. They must have also brought the owner of the stolden vehicle by some fashion to state that they told him they did the bombing..

Maybe they did act totally alone in isolation with absolutly no outside contact. This should be verified under drugs and it may be a misteak not to do it. Fanatics would have little reason to disclose that so what would the authorities expect as answers from him. Any one in north america that knew what they were up to and did not report it is an accessory.

It does concern me about the general mental condition of the north american population that some could actually believe they did not do it. I wish those people at this point would mention who they think did the deed.

The amount of people injured by the blasts is now upped to 260 by recent announcements. Three are past feeling injuries or anything else forever and there are some multipal amputations as well as some that have just lost one limb. The worker at a fireworks store identified one or both them as a heavy purchaser.

People that have questioned the presence of security cameras in our society should think it over as well. I am not suggesting in this case they could have gotten away. Yet it might have been much harder to run them down without them. I wonder if people just do not absorb that there is a somewhat low grade war underway for some time. I suspect the dollar cost to try to keep it down is astronomical at present and may yet increase.

There is no punishment really suitable for deeds of this nature. Some of the people that suffered over this might be creative enough to try though if they had the opportunity.

This morning on the radio they reported that so far no evidence on the bomber boys computers show any links to organized terror.

I suspect in the present and future to see less self incrimination by suspects. They have to be long aware by now that whatever form of communication with others of simular leanings if any has to be absolutly secure. Using your own home computors and overseas phone calls are obviously out.

The security systems may have learnt the lesson the hard way now. I suspect it is possible some form of at least random monitoring was going on over time. If not there may be a negligence factor involved here.

Why the russian warning was not taken more seriously if it was not will remain an unknown issue I think. It was grounds for deportation as an anti american type of thing I suspect. The older brother was not a citizen. The russians had declared him a risk apparently. I suspect this would not have happened without him. Or at least not have happened in America.
