Computer nerds!!! I need help

I'm trying to hook up my shop macs at the house. How do I hook up the macs in the new print shop area to the internet? I can't figure out ho to get all three macs onto the internet. Any help would be appreciated. :)

The easiest way would be to have a WIFI access point running off your Internet router (cable modem) and run Airport which is the Apple WIFI program.
I have a WIFI hub in one section of the house and a range extender at the farthest place where there was a decent signal. I can run my Mac, iPad, three laptops, a bunch of smart phones and an iPod that way...

You need to set up security on the WIFI connection WPA-2 is good for home use...

If your Macs do not have WIFI built in, you will need to run cables from each one to a hub which is then connected to your Internet router.

There is something called airport, how do I use that?

If you click on Airport it should open a dialog where you can pick your WIFI network and enter the security info. Tomorrow I can get screen shots if that will help...

Buy another mac

First question, do you have a wireless router and is it connected?

tbomachines 05-19-2013 09:55 AM

I've heard macs are not compatible with the internet

Chad300tdt 05-19-2013 10:03 AM

Why don't you call that MAC guru guy in your neighborhood and have him set up the system for you? Maybe you could print him some brochures or BCs in trade.

Assuming there is a wireless router hooked up and all the macs in question are wifi capable, which they should be unless they're ancient, (if I recall correctly the ancient ones were stolen) it ought to take maybe 5 total minutes to get them connected.

Here are the screenshots

4 Attachment(s)
I took some screenshots of AIRPORT.

You get to it by clicking the little waves icon at the top of your screen.
Once you d that you might have to turn it on.
Assuming you have WIFI in the are the computers are, you should see the network name (SSID)
Click on the name and a dialog pops up where you can enter the security information.if you cannot see the network, you can click on "Join other network" and see if you can find yours.

Good luck!

If you do not have WIFI, you will need to get a WIFI hub and connect it to your cable modem.
