The expensive and annoying problem areas on the car include every part associated with the ABC suspension and the coil packs fail around 60k to 70k miles. Idler pulleys are also a known failure point and brakes are very expensive. Spend the money on a PPI and use a mechanic who is very familiar with the car and the suspension components.

Good luck. It's a hell of a car for the money but it still has the maintenance and parts cost of a $180k car. Just do your own maintenance and repairs or you could end up spending north of $5k/year.

Yep, they had an SL65 AMG....


Though they hold their value a bit better...

I've spoken to a shop who has a fair amount of experience with the W220 chassis, and well... Let's just say it's not as bad as I thought it would be...

On the S55k and CL55k, you can bolt up a normal PS pump, swap a few control arms, add some sway bars, change some coding - and most importantly bolt up STEEL springs with conventional shocks...

Looks like an S-AMG might be on my radar here shortly.
