You work alone and for yourself? Extreme distraction and sloth at times is the norm, not the exception as far as I'm concerned. There are days where things needed to get done, and instead you are familair with every russian car crash video or you got into stupid internet debates?
![]() One thing that helped me is bringing other people in, really helps the motivation. Even if they aren't doing anything you are, as long as other people are around, things tend to get done faster because of the social interaction and responsibility, at least this works for me. Often ill have a subcontractor helping me, and suddenly the fact that you are paying this guy hourly makes everthing you do efficient and effective. Id consider bringing in another salesman to sell cars on your lot by commission. Then if he maks money, you make money, and he/she can be part time, and competition definitely helps the motivation. Competion to remain seen as th boss and command respect, that can go a long way helping you get things done.

I have to write a book for my job at the minute. I don't have a boss that keeps me on track. I use a few different lines of defence to keep me on task and they all work in different ways. The first one is I have a simple, very low daily goal or minimum to get done. It applies 7 days a week but I give myself a pass 2 days a week. Then I also keep track of what I get done daily and email a list to a friend every weekend of what I got done that week by day. At the same time my boyfriend knows I have to get the writing done so he always hassles me just enough in the morning and then asks me about it again in the evening.
So I guess I recommend peer pressure, a journal that you have to present to someone else, and super, ridiculously low goals. This sounds like a stupid method but on average I write a minimum of 10 pages of solid words a week. Last week I did about 15. I don't think I'm a naturally productive person so I just build systems that are idiot proof. And now when I don't get the minimal goal done I get kind of tense and eager to get back to my pattern of writing. Since you can quantify what you've got to do, why not just say you have to do one or two documents in the morning each day, before lunch? I use rescuetime at the same time to keep me on task at my computer. It's freeware. Hope this helps.

In the morning with my coffee, I sit down with a blank single piece of paper and write on it, ALL the tasks I need to get done.
As needed, I take it with me and cross off, with a single line drawn through it, every single one that gets done. This gives me a feeling of accomplishment as I go through the day, completing the tasks I've set out to do, but at the same time, sharp reminders of things still left to do that day. I've found that this works really well for me - and LITTLE is unaccomplished at day's end.

I'm with Swamp, routine.
Especially with a baby, they need routine in their lives. I would imagine that you may end up with a similar experience as I had... First baby came, I saw the immense benefits of routine in the baby's life, and by making that routine happen, I provided more routine in my life, which helped me to become a more focused and organized person. Also agree with your assumption that taking on employees can be more work for you than the work they do for you..... ![]() Personally, I avoid all medications. The side effects just seem way too high a price to pay for the possibility of the desired result.
