IDK it would be an interesting test. Its amazing what computers can do with modern cars.

They also have well north of 400hp and probably twice the torque output of the E38, 7 and 8spd transmissions, and massive brakes.

I think the stock 2014 S550 is 455hp and 516ft pounds.

I had one of those Land Rovers blow by the E-38 on the Merritt like it was standing still.

I tried to prevent this DB from swinging around me in the right lane...........traffic was moving at a steady 70 mph in the rain...........to no avail. The shltbox was unstoppable............talk about horsepower!!

It was funny just how many stops I witnessed in that 4 hr drive.
That spot would be somewhere north of Corsicana, it all is a speedtrap from Corsicana north to Dallas.

Yeah modern cars are impressive as hell, its almost like a video game.

I drove a Panamera and OMFG that thing had reserves of power and handling. I bet it could pull almost 1G making turns on roads such as the Parkway. The brakes while I didn't get on them to much left me with the impression that at full lock they are like the hand of God.

The gap between such a car and say my old SDL is the same as the gap between the SDL and a Model A Ford, different worlds....

I find the capability of all the new vehicles downright ridiculous. What possible purpose does it serve to give the average DB 350 hp and .9g cornering capability? You know full well that he is going to be a DB with it and cause others significant problems on the road.

If you know how to drive, you can easily get by with 150 hp in all local traffic conditions. This ongoing horsepower race is simply stupid.

Fortunately, that's going to end very soon when the new fuel economy requirements force smaller engines and reduced vehicle size.

I think it gives people a false sense of invincibility, which is why they run modern cars off the road.

Their is no way in the world that in normal driving conditions you can run a modern car off the road. Even a humble C300 4Matic I have done horrible things to and the computers saved it. You can drive such a car at the posted speed limit, and crank the wheel over without hitting the brakes to make a turn and the computers and 4 matic will keep it on the road.

Yet people drive these things off the road every morning on the way to work snarling traffic everywhere. My conclusion is either they are not paying attention, or they think they are invincible and go so much faster than conditions can permit that no computer trickery can save them.

Pretty much the bottom line is people are idiots and its the burden of the intelligent to have to deal with it.

The idiot percentage is now climbing north of 50%.

Why is it that these same morons will be the first one at a red signal and take a full six seconds to step on the accelerator? I have actually seen some take 10 seconds and only three vehicles make it through the light.

Sure you can. Don't steer for that next turn and you'll be off the road quite soon.

Half of all drivers are better than average.

I have not read the other Posts so this is likely a repeat.

In CA if the Sign has Maximum Speed Limit is X; if you exceed X speed limit they can Ticket you.

If the Sign has Speed Limit X; it is up to the officers Judgment on Traffic, Weather conditions and so on if He or She is going to Ticket You.
If You are given a Speeding Ticket for the above and you were with in 10 miles an Hour of X and there was nothing going on in Traffic that made that speed unsafe You might go to Court and get out of the Ticket.

What I have had good luck with is driving slightly slower than the fastest traffic.

I also go by the Basic Speed Law and try not to go any faster than is safe for the conditions. I think that means if the bulk of Traffic is going 85 mph in Speed Limit 65 mph zone I would feel OK doing 80 mph.
I have also noticed that the Police and Highway Patrol (State Troopers) tend to go after Fast looking Cars and especially back 20 Years ago or before they used to go after Motorcyclist.

Now most of the Motorcyclist I see on the Road in My Area are either Young People on Café Racer type Cycles or older Guys on Touring type Bikes.
I don't see Many Choppers around any more.

Agreed. The Corolla makes 130 HP, (at 5k+ RPM, so I never get anything close to it anyway), and I never floor the gas anyway. People seem to forget that you can downshift for more power so that you don't have to be able to rocket from 55 to 65 in top gear...

When I refer to other drivers in my head, I refer to "stupid people" .

Joe, we all do that. Anyone who drives slower than we do is "stupid"; anyone who drives faster is "crazy stupid fool".

The amount of time most take to hit the go pedal after a light change remains a mystery. My count is an average response time to a green light is about 4-5 seconds and often longer.
