another one for me is the 126 chassis. Wasn't a fan early on, especially not of the hind end, which looks like a cheap apartment block to me, but lately ive been thinking that if anything happens to my 240, I might look at the bigger 126 road cruiser as a replacement that still has my favorite engine in the 617.

plus there are a lot of the things on craigslist.

Best part is that the hatred of these cars is so powerful based on looks alone, that they can be had for super cheap and are generally a decent mechanical platform thats decently reliable and usable. Plus some of them have a 400# load limit cargo tray that slides out.
And on the pickup side there is its half brother the 2002 avalanche, bashed right from the start by the critics--what did the general do, they doubled down and smacked the 2003 up silverado with the same sneering face...... " hey we're the General / No way we're gonna listen to negative feedback-thats not how a guggernaut behaves"
Wonder of wonders they somehow pulled a 180 in 2007 and made it the only decent gm pickup avalable--accidentally , because it shared the new tahoe/burb platform.
And what of the 2007 silverado-- Oh NO...shot up full of HUMMER DNA the boxy POS is as ugly as a mid eighties chevy pu, the new one--again doubled down on boxes, the wheels--and the steering whel are round-thats about it. the frikkin Waste of Space "designers" shoud have benn axed just like the hummer, but no they're free to sit around on their asses, Hmm gotta come up with the " styling lines" of the new pickups fenders grill /headlights, hmm I think ill go with boxes--BOX'es everywhere , rectangle over the fenders with box stamped "style lines" over the wheel wells, every detail MUST have a right angle--Just Like We Did At Hummer!!!

And again, What did the idiots do with the purty Avalanche of 2013 when introducing the 2014 joke of a pickup,,,, They axed it - last one was built last april.

A gorgeous '65 hardtop Malibu came into work the other day. The owner & I talked for quite some time. Brought back a shipload of memories of hotrods from high school days.

This guy had a big block 550 cu in boat motor, hydromatic 400, an overdrive unit from a Winnebego after the trans, heavy duty rear, (Dana?), 4 wheel disc brakes, and a few other goodies. Painted deep Navy Blue, & looked basically stock except the hood scoop.

Man, would I love to drive this one an empty strip of highway for a few miles!

German cars in general, Porsche in particular. When I was a kid (before I drove) I couldn't understand why anyone would pay more money for a smaller car with less horsepower. I also thought Mercedes and BMW were ugly. Later, I decided I wanted a diesel, and didn't need or want a 3/4 ton pickup. I wound up with a 300D. After I bought it, it started looking better and better. I still didn't get Porsche, but then I got a job in a Porsche (and Audi, and Jag, sometimes Mercedes and BMW) shop, and got to drive some 911's. I'm still not a fan of Audi or Jag, but the 911 is a freaking engineering masterpiece.

Oh jeez, I'm not the only closeted fan of the Aztek. It would be great for carting around my dogs, bicycles, and other assorted junk. Mostly I like the irony that it is essentially the same as a Lexus RX (albeit without the build quality) but is reviled as the most fugly, while the Lexus is a huge success.

My daughter's Ford Mustang.

Rented the SN95 series awhile back when traveling and wasn't impressed. I liked the body style, but the V-6 was anemic.

Daughter's car is a V-8, and it probably wasn't a great idea for a first car...she has the tickets to prove it!

Nevertheless, I don't know if it's Fords in particular, but her car is DIRT EASY to work on! Very important when trying to budget a decent ride that will last through high school and college.

C5 corvette. Would make a beastly track car and also I think the curves have aged pretty gracefully so far. I thought they were too 90's-ish with the shape of the body but I think it will become one of the better examples of the time.

Lexus, Toyota, Honda, Acura....most new Asian cars.

I never appreciated them because they're appliances. However after numerous problems with newer German cars (Audi, BMW, and Mercedes), I decided to buy a Lexus for the wife and have been happy.

I think they're the best cars for non-car people.

I really like the front end on the 126, the steering and suspension I mean. Just feels right.

When I drove for Yellow cab of SF briefly in the late 90s, I drove a few Crown Vics with less than 10K miles. Yellow SF is the only cab co. I know of that buys new cars. The Crown Vics of that era are surprisingly responsive cars. If I had 4 kids, might be an attractive car, at the right price anyway.

I have always thought the 126 is a very handsome design, especially the coupe. The 190 is spot on too but the 124 sedan's rear roofline is just a bit awkward.

The W123 version of the 300D.

I grew up with an anti-German car bias because my automotive mentor, who was brilliant by the way, had that same bias. I think it had something to do with some German guys bombing his hometown just outside London in his younger days. He liked the pre-war BMW 328, but hated just about anything else that was German. It wasn't until many years later that I discovered the beauty of the OM617 motor.

Old cars. Old trucks. I hated them thru high school and college. Now I don't.

Wait, the cars I liked in HS and college are old cars now. Well duh....course I like them, I always did.

Panther Fords. Old grannymobiles but I want one. Specially a town car.
