Go Alaska...

Alaska Just Nullified Unconstitutional Gun Control Laws

Good for them! The US continues to split down the middle. On one side you have those who love their rights and the Constitution, on the other the Socialist's who live in cities.

Talk about a simplistic view of things. What about anarchist urbanites and rural vegan hippies?

24 hour darkness, ridiculous cost of living, subzero temperatures, mosquitoes so big they have FAA tail numbers; what's not to love?

I had a layover in Anchorage once. I do have to admit the view was outstanding.

The version of the bill on the Alaska government's website appears to have at least one typo, but the part I was able to decipher is utter nonsense:
Quote:
...(a) A state or municipal agency may not use or authorize the use of an asset to implement or aid in the implementation of a requirement of
(1) an order of the President of the United States, a federal regulation, or a law enacted by the United States Congress that is applied to (A) infringe on a person's right, under the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, to keep and bear arms;
(B) deny a person a right to due process, or a protection of due process, that would otherwise be available to the person under the Constitution of the State of Alaska or the Constitution of the United States; or ...

Bill Text 28th Legislature
Well, no ****, Sherlock. The geniuses in Alaska just passed a law that says that no state money can be used to violate federal law.

If they think they can establish by state statute what constitutes federal constitutional law, they need to read Article VI, Article 2 of the U.S. Constitution and the opinion written by the great Virginian, Chief Justice John Marshall, in Marbury v. Madison .

They are a bunch of grandstanding nincompoops.

From former Homer resident Tom Bodett . . . Alaska is filled with folks that came to the end of the road and didn't have the sense to turn around.

An ex girl friend whose a native Alaskan told me: you never have a girlfriend in Alaska, it's just your turn.

On Another note, more gun laws would surve them: Alaska sets record in gun deaths per capita. But what do I care, I don't live there.

Apparently half of those are suicides, at least according to one of the comments here: Alaska Ranks First in Per Capita Gun Deaths | Alaska Public Media

I don't count those as a problem, simply people who wanted to off themselves using the most effective method at hand to do so.

All those suckers that thought their turn would last forever. It becomes your problem when it's a loved one.

Anarchist urbanites don't vote; in fact, no one has spotted one in the last 3-and-a-half years. And rural vegan hippies? They're all dead as a result of poor nutrition.

I suppose state legislators have always passed BS, unenforceable feelgood legislation designed to do nothing but garner votes, but is seems like lately it's become something of a fad.

I was watching a show about buying homes in Alaska, and a couple looked at a cabin in a remote location that was only accessible by plane.

They landed in the water and jumped out on shore. The pilot had to fire his rifle to scare the bears away. They were several bears walking around in close distance.

What a different way of life where you need to fire a gun to walk into your front door as a precaution.

I missed the last part of your post the first time through. I could not disagree more. The people behind this legislation do not love the Constitution, they reject it. The first version of the HB69 attempted to make it a crime for a federal agent to enforce federal gun laws. Journal Text for HB69 in the 28th Legislature That would have been treason, or at least real close to it.

The bill became slightly less comical when they removed that provision, but it is still an anti-American bill. And I don't know where you get off with your arrogant denunciation of city dwellers and people who believe in socialism. They are as American as you and I.

I fully support anti-American bills like that. (Not treasonous, since the definition of treason is very narrow in the US, thankfully.) I hope that regional division and squabbles grow ever stronger as time goes on, and that the US will eventually de-evolve from a Federal republic to a much looser confederation with common immigration policy but little else.

It would at least give people a choice of where and under what kind of system they want to live. I love the US, but I hope that DC becomes first totally paralyzed, then totally irrelevant over the next 50 years.

Though its interesting that Alaska should be so anti-DC. A large portion of their economy comes from government and military programs, second only to the oil industry.

As different as it sounds, if money was no issue for me, I'd be just fine with it.
