It was one of the cars I learned to drive in. Around the same time he got the Cadillac, he also picked up a '73 Chrysler Newport for a beater, and it ended up being my first car. While far from perfect, the Newport was considerably less of a POS than the Imperial.
During the late '70's when I worked for Malvese in Hicksville, LI, George Malvese had a mid-to-late '70's that the auto shop could never get to run right. It was a well-kept secret around the company when the cat was removed, but not much improvement followed. The solution occurred when George bought an early 300SD as a company car (I believe it was a 116). He claimed that it would run away from the Imperial. Many cars of that era were dismal performers and never saw 10 MPG.

Talked to the seller. Real deal 1 owner original car. Just want some impartial eyeballs on it.

You're not going to Green Hornet-ize it, are you?

Pisspoor Paint work for starters

Whoever painted it didn't even spend the $$ to "doorjamb' it as the original Green body color screams out at when the doors are open. The woodgrain is a redo and again, halfassed work (looks like a peel n' stick job), the interior has been swapped (a Chrysler Green body would not have had a black interior, it would have been Tan or White).

So it's a "gussied up" Black Beauty clone at best and ain't worth near the $5K already bid on it.

doesn't look repainted to me. Look at the body color around the hood shots, that might just be paint reflection to the flash. Color in the jams is the same as the body looks like

Looked the same to me, too.

I've got no idea on interior color offerings, though.

My parents' best friends in NM had that approx. model around '66. I was a mere lad of course but it seemed like smooth and luxurious rig to me. The styling is about uninspiring for me, might be part of the low draw.

I'll bet it hauls pretty well with that motor in spite of the weight. A buddy of mine had a full sixed Plymouth of that era with a 440 and it was a fast car.

loves me some Imperials...........

I remember back around 91 or 92, a refinery expanded and bought a parcel of land that an old guy had that had quite a few Imperials on it and some unusual stuff like Pontiac 2+2s and such. Not certain, but I think most of it was crushed.....

Good info, Skip......

Although I have little info to relate about the Chryslers of that era, I can vouch for the Chrysler Newports! I knew several famlies and colleagues of mine and my Dad that drove the Newports. They struck me as very reliable, and big trunks. One of my first quarterly sales territory training assignments in the early '70s was in Augusta, GA. "Charlie" the territory manager in the FL/GA district drove a basic Newport - in white no less - ha! Newports were not flashy cars like the Imperial, the Cadillacs and Lincolns of the day. For they were way pricier than the Newport. With the insight of total retrospect - I think the Newport probably represented the largest/best large-size car a road-rep. could have bought in the day, from what the American-based auto manufacturers were building. The Newport was a tank, and priced right for the workin' man!

Tyler - you're a funny guy!

Unless the car is in the condition-for-the-money as is, where you will pay the large dollars for it in hot pursuit - I would wait and re-contact the seller after the auction, and perhaps let the dust settle.

However, I agree on getting a set of eyes or two on it to look AND listen, and drive it - from trusted third-party forum members from that area.

IIRC, and I think I do......the Chrysler New Yorker was a gussied-up, classy Newport, but well under the total bling of the Imperial.

The Newport was a stripped big ass four-door sedan, Ha!
