Unless it is mine, you bet it isn't. It's worth YOUR life to go do the dirty work.

The mindless dumbassification of America into the safety straight jacket continues. Notice the stores bs press release. It starts right off about safety. You know what you dumbasses? I don't need to hear a billion damm safety notices ever five friggin seconds about how you're on a friggin crusade for the safety of your imbecile customers who are evidently incapable of walking across the aisle without encountering lebensgefahr!
It starts in the schools. Quite staggering how much time and energy is wasted on safety drivvle. It's truly amazing that any education gets sandwiched in between being safe. I actually witnessed with my own eyes one adult admonish another for "running" on a campus the other day. The incredible thing was that the "runner" she wasn't running of course, merely hurrying along, actually listened to the other one and slowed down and apologized for being "unsafe" By the time kids get out of school they'll be so zombified I doubt they'll have much ability to show the slightest initiative. The idea of doing anything whatsoever like this woman did won't even occur to them. - Peter.

My take-
Used to work for TJ-Maxx way back in the day. Store policy of not interfering with shop liftng was blatant then as well. They went on and on about it during employee orientation, but they explained a bit further, which maybe lowes and other big chain stores also suffer from. Seems a TJMaxx, something like 85% of product theft is from employees, not from customers. Result of minimum wage high turnover I guess, but the store had evolved theft policy around protecting itself from its biggest danger, its employees. As a result, loss recovery and store security was a completely separate organism from the rest of the employees because they spent more time watching employees than anyone else. We were told to not involve ourselves in shoplifting by customers, as 1. The store had excellent camera systems and those people would not get away with it long term, and 2. Dealing with shoplifting was the responsibility of the loss recovery and theft people, not general employees. I remember some knucklehead tried to run out of the store with a bunch of jeans, and two guys popped out of what I had always assumed was a mirrored wall, but turned out to have a door in it, and tackled the kid in the parking lot. I had been working there for over a year part time, and had never see these two guys before in my life. They apparently came in to the store before the rest of us, punched in somewhere else, ect.

But, there is also the question as to how much time the Company devoted to drilling that into their Employees. Does telling Children something one time get them to do what you want? Or, do you need to tell them many many times? And, Adults can be much worse then Children.

I understand not to get involved in any thing I suspect is theft. I talked to one of our loss prevention folks and he told me to call him or a manager. Said theft is not theft till it leaves the building. Said he is trained and I am not. Perhaps Ms 18 yr employee should have asked before she jumped. I am sure this is not the first time she saw someone do this.
Who knows. All I can say is that it would be as bad if not worse. But what's your point? That the one swallow makes a spring? Look at all the splendors of mankind. It is a safer bet that someone given the means, motive and opportunity will do bad things than right. As they say, the race doesn't always go to the strongest or the swiftest but it is the way to bet.
Possibly. But for what do I stick my neck out and possibly get it chopped off for? Perhaps so but look at what she gets out of it.
I doubt if the loss of Her job at Lowes will have much effect on Her life. Perhaps She needs to consider a career in Law Enforcement.

She was reminded with a pink slip. Not the companies problem that some people are non-compliant. Rules are there for a reason. Run a red light often enough and odds are you will get caught and punished. Might get busted on the first violation. Who knows. "I did not know" is not a valid excuse in a court of law. I tried it and it did not work.

Concerning the Movie what it reminds Me of is that Criminals are less likely to do something that is not directly for their own benefit than what I am generically going to say is a Decent Person. Like the People who came to the aid of the SUV Diver attacked by the Bikers. Decent People are more likely to and often do take a risk even when it is not to their own benefit to do so. Criminals look at the odds verses the gains. If the odds are not in their favor the don't act or leave the scene; assuming they are Sober. Clearly the odds were not in favor of someone helping the SUV Driver.
