The supposed Obama hatred is not the issue. Both parties caused this. The ACA should not have been implemented until the rest of our financial house was in order.

The video in the first post draws no party affiliation. It describes a scenario that appears directly related to our current situation as a country.

The ACA is one of the most important things we can do to get our financial house in order.

I haven't seen the video. My comments were addressed to BC's comments in this thread.

The ACA is a means to an end (single payer) and its discussion belongs elsewhere.

The point is we cannot afford what we are doing let alone install an unknown entity.

Curious, but why did you not include expansion of employment and growing the tax base?

I see nothing in the entire video which is out of line or exaggerated. At the end he starts his sales pitch; but what person or entity would not?
The stupendously idiotic ideas of spending more or eliminating the debt ceiling will (and are) killing us. We are in a boat which is leaking badly, and we are on the Niagra river. People with the idea of spending more and putting their heads in the sand about paying back the debt are effectively telling us to paddle harder and faster downstream.

As if taxing the rich will stop the spending? If you take ALL the money from the rich now and give to the fed govt it will not come close to paying back the debt. WTF are you thinking that it will do? You sincerely believe that the politicians will use that money judiciously?

Which only makes sense if it works, which I know is something the GOP would hate.

Why would a discussion of 1/6 of the economy belong elsewhere?

Stupendously idiotic? Wow. And here I thought there was just a difference of opinion among very smart people about how to attack a stupendously complicated problem.

For the record, I am in the stupendously idiotic camp on this one. What sort of approach do you prefer? The Paul Ryan approach perhaps?

It's a good thing nobody proposed doing anything like that.

You must be talking to someone else. I said nothing about taxing the rich.

Since when does "can't afford what we are doing now" bother you? You think we should abolish the debt ceiling!

We should abolish the debt ceiling because it does nothing to restrain spending or reduce deficits. It creates a situation where the President may be called upon to either violate the debt ceiling law or default on obligations already assumed by they country, resulting in damage to our economic standing and creating even greater deficits because of the effect it would have on the interest our creditors will accept. And that assumes that our creditors will continue to roll over our bonds and not call the debts we owe them.

The debt ceiling is (a) idiotic and (b) here to stay.

When you have more tax payers, that's expanding the base. When you start weaning multinational corporations off of their "zero federal tax" positions, that expands the base.
