When I buy a house I take possession at closing and I do a walk through before I go to the title company. The house is vacant and the key gets given to the realtor. I sign, funds are transferred and i get the keys. If your stuff is in the house at walk through, there is no closing.

I've rented from U-haul numerous times with out an issue. Never long haul, only local stuff. Folks moved from Miami to Los Angeles back in 70's. The breaks on the double axle trailor behind the U haul truck locked and caught fire. They got it out. POIA to get it repaired and back on the road. Their biggest grip was the small fuel tank. They figured out how to over ride the governor.

I'd be curious to hear about that from the buyer of his place.

Probably told the buyer he'd have it moved out and they were stupid enough to accept it. When it didn't go as planned, they got pissed and gave him the ultimatum which makes them and the truck company guilty for his lack of planning.

Correct. It is all their fault. :D

Strippers?

Never worth the risk of attempting something like that. Maybe for only a few blocks at very low speed at best. For example if I came up on that when driving on the highway it and doing perhaps 50 mph. I probably would not pass it.

You know, snow and all?

Even here in Canada they would really throw the book at you. Probably by calling the commercial vehicle division in. I was actually wondering that other than overweight trailor what they might tag you for.

I also think that you would have to go over any commercial weight scales. When they saw what you had you would certainly end your journey there. .I have seen much less risky setups land up in ditches before.

might have been closer to legal if they towed one of these contraptions behind the uhaul to pull the 5th wheel, and had someone drive the pickup. (assuming it could be driven)

I saw one of these once, and the owner was all about it, but since then ive read some pretty poor reviews. Still makes it nearly impossible to reverse with the 5th wheel, but probably would be a decent straight ahead tow behind the box truck

I drove a wrecker while in high school. Once in the middle of the night I towed a dually crew cab which was towing a trailer hauling multiple bass boats. Something like this:

I was too naive to realize how stupid that was. I looked in the mirror and it looked like I was leading the town's Christmas parade. Everything went smoothly until I got back to the gas station and tried to back the parade up.

Or just put a clause in the sales contract that any items left in the home upon closing will convey with the home, no exceptions. Then ... YARD SALE, BABY!

Why? I'd sell you a vacant house, probably in decent shape.

Don't SELL a home to me if it's going to be full of your junk on the closing date and you don't have a damn good reason for it still being full of junk. List of good excuses: Dead, in jail, in a hospital, kidnapped by jihadis, any one of the four happening to close family, or similar.

I have a policy of only dealing with people who are competent in their knowledge of the business they are involved in and who are fair with the other party and who deal in good faith (a great attitude scores MAJOR brownie points with the Husky). I have a long long list of people who have screwed me or my friends over and I never forget who they are. I make notes of times, dates and places so that if someone asks me for a referral I can pull out the notes, dates and places so that I can provide them with SPECIFIC information in detail. In addition, I have near 20/20 memory all the way back to when I was five years old. I'm Jack Rabbit quick to make sure that any chance I have to refer business AWAY from these losers, I do so.

I know how to vet out a potential problem purchaser which saves me untold hours of headaches and trouble. They simply are not allowed to purchase what I have for sale, no matter how good a deal it may appear on the surface, trouble is coming. If I am shopping for a product or service and have the slightest indication that a seller/service provider is going to be a problem, I WALK AWAY AS FAST AS POSSIBLE, it isn't worth doing business with an a**.

In my experience, only about 1 in 1000 people in any given field of endeavor are truly competent and fair dealing. The other 999 aren't worth doing business with and will most certainly result in a sub par end user experience.

with all this impressive clairvoyance, how did you allow yourself to get into such a tight time schedule with your move?

No worries. If you're so smart, I probably wouldn't be buying from you. Smart people don't get foreclosed on, aren't forced to short-sell, and don't need to do a quick estate sale due to a contested will or tax arrears.

Funny, funny funny. More assumptions and presumptions on your part. I personally have never been in that situation but do know people who were. I did learn the hard way about Uhaul though, a long distance move with them can go south fast. HOWEVER, a Budget or Penske truck can also break down during the middle of a move so best to plan for it. There are NO guarantees in this world.;)

The easiest way is to hire a professional moving service to pack your things and take them to the next location. Ahhhhhhhh, sit back and have a cold one while you watch them carefully pack your things onto their truck. Hop in the benz and enjoy the sights while you roll down the highway towards your next big adventure.
