IMO, it's a problem of over-population and near hopelessness exacerbated by fanatical religious beliefs. Hungry people who have almost given up on life are open to radical ideas for improving their lives.

Sorta makes our problems with Latino migration look tame.

Al Jazeera America is not bad. I've seen some good reporting there, not that I watch it that often. They recently aired the most in depth televised piece on the Aral Sea disaster that I've seen yet.

Not in my cable line-up but I wish it was. I've sometimes caught while I traveled and found it a useful perspective. I read the online version a couple times a month. More if something interesting is going on.
