Great scene! I was filling my rabbits water this morning and my wet fingers briefly stuck to the metal cage. Naturally I thought of Flick with his tongue stuck to the flagpole.

Ouch!

You have to "fit in"; drive the same crappy ten year old cars everyone else drives, live in a house with a leaky roof and crappy windows, 20 year old carpet, etc etc., shop at Wal-mart along with the other losers, etc etc.

No "getting ahead" allowed.

My neighbors are nice. They don't bother me, don't interfere. We mind our own business. Never had an issue with any of the Benz's. Never had anyone make remarks either. Maybe I get looks from people occasionally?

Moreover, why do I/you care what other people think about your possessions? If I want to have my custom build 30 year old Mercedes chair as the mainstay seating of my living room then so be it. The only way I buy furniture is if I know it is comfy, well build and I can afford it. If not, I built it and if anyone doesn't like it...there the door. I dont see why I have to conform to someone else's standard or expectations of living. As long as I am pleased and not placing a burden on you/etc... You are always more than welcome to have an opinion on my decor, but as they say..there is no accounting for taste.

I definitely meant qualify them; I don't know to what kind of things you are referring when proposing to tax "economic gains...not included in "income" for tax purposes." What are these economic gains you propose to tax? Unrealized capital gains? Appreciation on a home? Art?

Just don't understand what you mean by untaxed income.

As I understand it, wealthy people and companies have legal tax avoidance methods that are inapplicable to the rest of us. As I am not wealthy, I am not familiar with the details. Is my understanding incorrect?

I may have missed it, but I don't think anybody advocates for paying NO taxes or having NO gov regulation. The argument centers over the degree, not the existence.

I'd be delighted if anybody could prove me wrong.

Nobody comes out and says that, but some of the arguments made here come close. For example, when a proposals for modest increases in the top marginal rates draw counter arguments that the private sector is more efficient or effective than government, then where is that counter argument leading?

Perhaps people may disagree as to whether a tax increase is necessary without others assuming they are anarchists.

You're making the much-maligned 'slippery-slope' argument?

Okay, have it your way: Gays marry means people will marry their gerbils.

I agree, but if the disagreement is about whether the current marginal rates, for example, are too low, too high, or just right, then why don't people say so?

I don't think that's what I've done at all. I'm just suggesting that the responses to my suggestion that the wealthy have it too easy are incomplete.

If people don't accept a proposed tax increase then they don't want any government.

Slippery slope? Hell, it's almost extortionist.

Not those exact words and nothing like that exact meaning, either. I responded to Hat with a comment that he had just taken away all of Uncle Sam's money, which if taken literally, would mean that he wanted no government at all. It was obvious that he did not intend such a result. The point of my comment is that the responses to my call for a modest top marginal rate increase are incomplete, which is nothing like the words you are trying to put in my mouth.
