It sounds to me like it may have been a blessing in disguise. Good luck on the interview.
|
Sorry to hear it Gator, although it sounds already like it will be for the best in the long run.
Best of luck with finding a better fit, and hope it come soon. And your previous employers suck with their timing. A week before Christmas is a hell of a time to lay someone off. Hope they get coal in their stockings.... |
Out of curiosity, what is your industry? That's really heartless to lay people off the week before Christmas.
Good luck with the interview! Maybe a new job will be the present you didn't ask for! |
It really annoys me when employers let folks go around the holidays. It's not like they didn't know this beforehand. Talk about being heartless! But then again, what do we expect...afterall, that is one of the finer aspects of the sort of immoral capitalism we've accepted as normal.
Sorry to hear, but it also sounds like you have a good plan in motion - wish you the best! |
My brother was given his walking papers a week ago. He works in retail and was the store manager...of the largest store the company has. During his time, customer traffic dropped by 22% yet his overall sales only dropped by 2.5%...any other store would have given him a raise or a promotion...instead, they let him go a week before bonus checks were issued.
There's many heartless creatures in business today...and many others that will do the same job for less money. |
Hope you land right side up
Hey, if you become a stay at home dad at least you can show your son how to repair dash parts....and have small hands available to actually do it!

Bollocks news - crap time to happen
There's only really one choice - onwards and upwards |
Yes it is a crap time to happen but I did have vacation scheduled for the rest of the year so I'm good there. The one bummer is I'm not likely to find another job with 4 weeks paid vacation again.
Thanks for all of the kind words and support I have been getting. |
As someone already said, when one door closes...
I was notified last December the facility I was working in was closing. I was not happy with the company anyway and thank goodness I had been interviewing for other jobs. The closure was announced Thursday Dec 13. The company I most wanted to work for called me Friday Dec 14 to extend an offer. I felt like I had won the lottery. It was hard to stifle my happiness around the others who were losing their jobs. I have been with the new company for nearly a year now and I couldn't be happier. As Larry said, network, network, network. That's the key to finding a job in this age. Best of luck to you. |
I got fired in 2007. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. I am much much much more happy now than if I stayed at that old job.
This is a blessing in disguise. |
Just listened to a Freakanomics podcast about quitting jobs . . . Really enlightening and recommend it if your wondering if "quitters never win, and winners never quit."
|
Hope this turns out to be a great mini-vacation over Christmas and New Years, and a better new job in 2014 ! Best of luck. I remember back in the day when the Boxwood plant closed up when GM left and then the Chrysler plant in Newark. A knew a handful of folks who ended up at Delaware Park and loved the change in careers. So, fingers crossed and out of lemons comes lemon aid.

right before christmas! what in the hell.
I was wondering why on the timing, but jplinville's post about bonus's makes perfect sense. x2 on the when doors close, others open, sometimes when you least expect it. Quitting or being laid off has always been a blessing in disguise for me. |
