Exclamation Into the crosshairs

U.S. Marines poised to enter South Sudan

By Marie-Louise Gumuchian. Barbara Starr and Antonia Mortensen, CNN

About 150 U.S. Marines are poised to enter turbulent South Sudan to help evacuate Americans and provide security for the U.S. Embassy, two U.S. military officials said Monday.

The troops are moving from Spain to Africa, probably to the nation of Djibouti, the officials told CNN's Barbara Starr on Monday.

An estimated 100 U.S. citizens are believed to be in South Sudan, where steady violence is stoking fears of an all-out civil war in the world's newest country.

On Sunday, all Americans who presented themselves at a U.N camp in the flashpoint town of Bor were evacuated safely, the State Department said.

A State Department official said about 15 Americans were flown out Sunday. U.S. personnel have been working to confirm that no other U.S. citizens remained in Bor in need of evacuation.

U.N. civilian staff were moved from a compound in Bor to Juba, the capital, on Saturday, the same day a U.S. mission to airlift Americans out was aborted when the aircraft came under fire.

That's what I was thinking, the AK-47 must be the ultimate symbol of the fight against the west and capitalism. Hezbollah has even a Kalashnikov in their flag...

Russia's version of John Browning. His ingenuity in design still stands strong today.

I think Browning designed more than just one item though.

The bolt and carrier are right off an AK, and the operating rod and gas block are kind of a blend of FN Fal and AK. All done up to Swiss standards.

Hence the AK that went to college.

They'll just dig him up in a year, cycle his action a few times, knock the mold off of him and he'll be alive again.

They said on the radio yesterday you could immerse one in a muddy wallow and pull it out and it would work fine. Can that possibly be true? If so I'd love to hold one and look at it and understand how it can be.

Tis true Tom. Look at some of the YouTube videos showing it firing under water. Pretty neat stuff.

I believe that there were eight presidents of the Continental Congress while the Articles of Confederation were invigor, prior to the drafting of the Constitution.
