Your Dog's Inner Compass

Dogs Align Themselves to Earth's Magnetic Field When Pooping - D-brief | DiscoverMagazine.com

I love this part:

The researchers spent two years gathering the necessary data (i.e., watching 5,582 pee breaks and 1,893 defecation stops) in Germany and the Czech Republic.

Howdy Bot,
I don't know if I'm the one, but you got me anyways ;-) No they don't have a magnetic compass, they are the center of all, everything radiates out from them LOL.

This probably explains why dogs don't live at the Poles. ... and dogs that chase their tails, compass malfunction.

I saw the news footage, sounds persuasive - the part I don't get is why it would matter to dogs which way they're aligned when they poop. If some biological benefit could be established, I can see a future for ergonomically designed lavatories with toilets correctly aligned and small adjustments available for minute changes in the magnetic field. Teams are working now on a marketing strategy. Perhaps something like 'get straight with your pooping!' Needs a bit of work maybe.

From recollection, a Brahmin must **** to the north during the day and the south at night. He may **** in any direction if in fear for his life.

I wonder if the study tested those parameters with dogs.

Thank God the "if in fear for his life" clause was included.

Yeah, you were my target, Frank!

I liked your answer -- I have one dog like that.

Or re-calibration. Like those compass-equipped mirrors - have to drive in a circle or figure 8 to re-calibrate
