Jean Jennings...

She's the president of Automobile Magazine, but if you need any evidence to support the idea that she's a paper-pushing administrator, rather than a car person, this video should do it.

Of course, I'm not saying you have to be a car nut to run a magazine geared towards automotive enthusiasts, but you should be farther along that scale than she seems to be.

You do know she's the former Jean Lindamood. Wrote for Car & Driver for many years, published several automotive themed books, and a former Chrysler test driver. She's been a part of the auto business for probably 50 years.

Yes, I did know that. This is a better clip: Jean Jennings - See how I got here - JeanKnowsCars.com

Just the way she comes across nowadays, it's almost as though the "heritage" is gone.

I did not realize that. I remember when she first started with C&D way back in the day. I suspect she could talk on a pretty detailed technical level if she wanted to. She don't need to talk like that no more, she is in upper management.

I always looked forward to her first person accounts of driving, or better, riding with a really superb driver in some fast car.

Denise McCluggage

I think she is the doyenne of modern female automobile journasism

Goes back to the 1950s-very early 1960s.

wiki:

In early 1950s San Francisco, whilst covering a yacht race, she met Briggs Cunningham, the builder of the first American cars to race at Le Mans. She bought her first MG TC sports car, and began racing at small club events. In 1954 she moved to New York to work at the New York Herald Tribune as a sports journalist. The MG was replaced with a Jaguar XK140, and she began to race professionally. As she began to drive professionally in the mid-1950s she earned the respect of her male counterparts. Her trademark was a white helmet with black dots. Her racing achievements included winning the grand touring category at Sebring in a Ferrari 250 GT in 1961, and she scored a class win in the Monte Carlo Rally in a Ford Falcon in 1964 **** . She also participated in the 1000-km race at the Nürburgring. She drove Porsches, Maseratis and other racing cars of many marques, often with her compatriot Pinkie Rollo. She ended her racing career in the late 1960s and eventually became founding editor of the U.S. automotive magazine AutoWeek.[1]

A few years ago I met her I think it was at a concours show in Pebble Beach.

Bought a copy of her then new autobiography she was peddling, and she autographed it "Keep the pedal to the metal, Jim"

lol

**** Heads up, MS Fowler!

How nice for you to notice....and remember. Her Falcon had little in common with mine. I have a road test comparison between the factory sprint and the racing sprint. Actually, race cars were not all that different---more power like 300 versus 164, bigger wheels and tires. studded tires, heavier springs and shock, racing buckets, rack seat removed and a tool/ parts board in its place, limited slip diff. But the really big difference was the black out (rattle can) respray of the dash in instrument fascia.
