Thanks for the link. Interesting story. Jim Nantz is one of the more well-respected broadcasters in sports, but I'm surprised he didn't know that the same "late-breaking news" has been covered by so many others. I remember when Howard Cosell said essentially the same thing in the early 70's!!!

What's the problem with Superbowl Boulevard? NYC has similar street fairs/events on the major Avenues and cross-streets from April thru November. The only difference is that this one is taking place during part of the work week, and why not? Broadway, between Herald and Times Square is the quintessential NYC experience for many tourists. Why not celebrate a globally viewed event in a venue visited by people from all over the globe?

Street fairs:
(1) do not occur during the work week
(2) do not last 5 days (actually more like 10 or 12 including setup)
(3) do not come with intrusive levels of security -- you don't need to get a (granted, free) ticket on some NFL site just to cross the damn street

Check the TV ratings.

American football is okay, but if you want the premier sporting event, it's the F1 Grand Prix of Monaco. The sound, the speed, the absolute lack of runoff area:

Now back to the OT. I grew up in Georgia, where we didn't have a winter worth speaking of, and summer ran about six months long generally. That got real old real fast. Now I live in a place where we have just enough of a winter to make you appreciate summer, and just enough of a summer to appreciate winter. Spring and fall are simply fantastic. But don't move here. There are no jobs, and no good Indian or Chinese food.
