In theory, but how to ID the craft's owner?
Out here where nobody bats an eye at gunfire, much easier to knock it down and make it disappear.

Having said that, I'm thinking that these things fly pretty high, no?

Out in "your neck of the woods" nobody bats an eye at pretty much anything.

Depends on the nature of the drone. There are some that are little more than R/C planes and helos that have very limited range and altitude.

That depends on the altitude and various other constraints. If it's in national airspace your property rights no longer count for anything. Otherwise airliners and satellites would be trespassing.

The reality is, even if you see one in clear violation of some law or regulation they are nearly impossible to trace to an owner.

I'm thinking a radio jammer might be fun. Or my own controller to take control of some nitwit's ship. But shooting them down would be the most fun.

Altitude depends on the ship. If it's a Predator or Global Hawk then it is generally out of FAA jurisdiction and is flying above normal airline traffic (if within CONUS). The international borders are an exception as also are times of national emergency. Then they come under AWACs or DHS.

LEGALLY, hobbyists cannot fly in national airspace (Larry, is that 600 ft agl? I forget). Nor are UAS allowed in commercial ventures. But people are using them commercially all the time.

So your neighbor can fly his Cuisinart over your farm below national airspace and violate your property rights. You then get to go to your local police and complain and they'll get right on it. Yeah, sure.

The other option I offer is laser based, but you have to be seriously careful about the background.

Just flood 2.4-5.8 GHz with random noise and a highly directional antenna. Maybe Justin Beiber would cause the UAS to self-destruct.
