That is the one possibility. The only life forms that are keeping pace with us are microbes and some insects. Rats maybe. And the latter two will only help microbes in their thing. I gather that research in new anti-biotics is not big as there's not bit profit to be had there (!?). With the ones we have becoming ineffective (oh hey, let's put them in animal feed) could be pandemics can take off. Not that I welcome that, might get me along with the rest.
