The new "Cosmos"

Anybody watch the new "Cosmos"? I've not seen it, just the first few minutes of the first episode. My initial thoughts are it's almost too close a copy of the original, not in the effects which of course are generations beyond the first series capabilities but in the way the script keeps harking back to the Sagan's series.

I'll have to wait till tomorrow when there are fewer people in the house (fewer wireless devices chewing up my pipe) so I can watch it.

The original was my favorite TV show of my youth. I can remember being in a major funk when it the last episode ended.

- Peter.

I liked the host's final few words in episode 1, where he brought out Carl's calendar and found his name in it. He then recounted the day and its impact on him. It was very sincere and very touching.

The science was good and colorful. I have read considerable exception-taking to the historical cartoon. I don't know enough about it to have an opinion.

I must have missed the part where MacFarlane put in "The Flintstones."

I haven't seen it. I read some complaints about historical misrepresentation of Bruno's trial. Not informed enough to know for sure about that. But ultimately it doesn't really matter from my point of view. The death penalty for lack of conformity seems a tad too harsh no matter the finer points of distinction on where he failed to conform.

Haven't seen him in anything but short interviews yet. What do you dislike about him?

Me and the Missus have enjoyed COSMOS immensely, except there are way too many commercials and it doesn't go into enough depth.
We are used to PBS NOVA science & nature shows with no commercials.

There was one multi-part series that featured the 4 billion year history of planet earth from just the evidence in and around Australia. Very revealing as to how they go about dating formations & fossils and different eras. I didn't know the large red rock is deposited silt from the mouth of an ancient river.
Showed an Opal pterosaurs skeleton.......

I am glad to see it on the air, and I think Neil Degrasse Tyson is a great host for it. It doesn't go too far in depth, but its hitting a huge audience.

Just watched episode 2 last night and enjoyed it immensely. Neil deGrasse Tyson stepped on more than few toes with subtlety and humon.

Also it should be noted the more interesting educational shows we can get on tv the better...get those young inquisitive minds working early!
