Who wants to retire? If you enjoy what you are doing you are already living the retirement life. I cannot think of anything more dreary then not having something to work towards and/or never getting to make another deal.

If you don't like what you are doing then find something you do like. This sounds simple but we all know it is very difficult. Still, it is worth the effort.

In 2008 when the real estate market collapsed it sucked my Architectural practice down the toilet with it. I closed my firm from lack of sufficient work to pay for errors and omissions insurance. I went to work for Purdue for 3+ years and hired my son to manage my real estate. He moved to florida toward the end of my Purdue stint so when I was made redundant at Purdue I took over the real estate and started drawing social security. Now I am providing Architectural consulting on a part time basis, operating on a much simpler level than before and am enjoying it very much.

I never thought I'd want to retire but would not want now to go back to the full time demands of running a practice. Its pretty great waking up whenever I feel like it and coming and going pretty much any time I wish.

If I did not have other income though it would not be much fun trying to make it on SS.

Is this the new normal for Peach Parts OD? Posts with clear insults directed at the person (not the subject being discussed) are allowed to stand? I flagged this post a day or so ago so perhaps the mods have not had time to view and review it; IDK. I'd have thought the Don would have given a warning and asked the poster to alter his words or delete the post.

I needed a personal simple yardstick of what partial retirement was. After some thought years ago. Not having to work to put food on the table as a necessity for us was enough to call it partial retirement. I was not rich by the way.

Can happen at any age I suppose. You still work at things but the absolute necessity to do so is not there. Today is Sunday for example but I will leave and finish a little task so I can start removing some of the tools on Monday.

I usually put in about eight hours a day at some point. Yet the list of things that either need done or I want to do does not seem to shrink much.

Yesterday the wife sent a guy down to the site who wanted euro bumper parts for his 1986 gas Mercedes. I figured since he was Austrian he was perhaps a professor at the university in the nearby town. I leave two mercedes part cars outsife an old ex service station we have. Word gets around so occasionally someone asks who owns the cars and is directed to me.

I gave him the peach part sites information and we may see him here. I told him that there were no parts cars like his around with good rust free euro bumpers regionally in my opinion. So I hope he tries the parts wanted section as I thought there where a lot of his model in American scrap yards.

Seemed like a nice guy just retiring and wanting to do some things on his car. I like most always try to be helpful.

I did also mention that chrome on a car in the sunbelt can be faded. This does not happen in more northern lattitudes. Or is minor in comparison with cars left outside all the time.

I have no wish to see anyone belittled on this site. All people are not the same or develop the same. So I find it in poor taste to do so. This ideal that we are all born equal is a load of crap for starters.

As a fellow Canadian I find it in general especially to be bad manners. Hurting some ones feelings can be accidental. To do so with intent is another thing. The poster of this to me offensive remark may be smarter than me goes without saying. Having more common sense is not there though.

Never feel superior to another individual either. For example I feel that there is not another person alive that in some way or another could teach me something.

There is a pretty good group of guys on this site. It is important that any attempt to make this site like far too many with name calling or demeaning comments etc does not happen. Or infrequently at best. Most things posted are thoughtful. We even do not have a ban on discussing politics or religion. Although it is well known they can polarize elements within a group fast.

Agreed. Though John Galt (alias BB?) usually is one who is insulting and trolling others, if Insidious (alias Jolly Roger?) doesn't like him he should put him on ignore.

That's where I put people that irritate me. If I don't, I tend to react and post out of irritation and I don't like myself when I do that.

Exactly. I've been self employed nearly all my adult life; I wouldn't have it any other way. The older I get the more selective I've become with the jobs I'll accept. I have no intention of ever 'retiring'.

Then the Wealthy pay someone to do they Taxes and if there is a disparity in their Taxes the Wealthy Persons do not get personally blamed for the disparity.

On the other hand there is an ever growing list of Poorer Folks with less middle income Folks.

It is easier for the Police to catch People running a Stop Sign then it is for them to Capture a Murder (and then have to prove the Guy did it).

Speaking of taxes in general. Simply because of societal changes my belief is they will have to go up. The poor do not totally escape taxation as much as is thought. It is just partially concealed.

Historically this was much less so in the past. I well remember the days before the current 15 percent sales tax in our region of Canada existed.
