Help With Proper Writing
 

I am not an English teacher, but yvairguy asked me for help on an unrelated thread that he is trying desperately to hijack. So to try and prevent it, I instead trying to put it here and help not only him but others. I am sick of the lack of writing skill! The cellular telephone has ruined language and writing, plus make folks lazy writers.

What I mean by proper English:
Use proper punctuation and use of. A sentence ends with a period (.), question mark (?), or and exclamation (!). It does not in with quotes, especially when used around a non-sentence.

A sentence begins with capitalization, unless in some cases a list is somewhat acceptable.

Be aware of coma splices! Several ideas can't be forced into one sentence unless great care is taken. Please see this: How to use a semicolon - The Oatmeal

Also, use paragraphs to make the independent ideas separate. A paragraph is basically an idea backed up. The next idea and backup gets separated. This makes it much easier to read an comprehend.

I reply with whatever i have on me at the time be it cellphone, tablet, or computer so sometime depending on the devise used the reply may not have all the punctuation and writing style you crave.

When I come here I am wearing my grease monkey tech hat not my college edumacated perfect punctuation hat. If you would like to have everything in MLA, Modern Language Association, or APA, American Psychological Association format I can oblige but that is so tedious.

Seeing as how the bulk of my APA writing experience was when I was in nursing school, with an emphasis in psychology, I will now have to break out the DSM and try to figure out why you need to be so picky, and why I feel a need to reply.

Might also ask the moderators to move the thread as it has nothing to do with "Diesel Discussion".

I don't crave, I just disire you to get your message across so we can help. I have a good friend who is way worse but we had fun with it.

MLA or APA isn't needed as no citations. ;) I grew up using MLA but in Communication had to learn APA, so fine with either. :P

This advice is quite opportune for me, as I am a graduate student currently preparing a Master's feces.

Did you miss the part about beginning sentences with "capitalization?"

Never use a preposition to end a sentence with.

The comma, simply put is the thin line between "Let's eat, grandma" and "Let's eat grandma". Lives depend on it's proper use.

Actually it's a suprasegmental juncture. But since you used "it's" instead of the correct "its" don't worry about it.
