One practical though not completely ideal solution is to use all mail in ballots. The state legislature can determine the cut off point for registering, and/or the ballots can be made available at the postoffice, and people have until the last pickup on election day to vote.
The major downside of this is that some who don’t have access to a post office or who are homeless may not be able to vote. That could be resolved in a number of ways. |
I seriously doubt many if any homeless vote.
A friend of mine asked me if I knew what R solution to the poor is? ....DON'T BE ONE! |
^Hard to say if homeless people vote or not. I would not want to exclude them from that possibility.
We've had some major office elections in recent years that were decided by less than 100 votes between the winner and loser |
