There's something to be said for the old saw, "If you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything at all."

Corny but it can keep you from looking like or being an ass.

You mean besides "It's tired"?

It can also keep people on their toes like giving you a bad review or good review for your work. As an example, I give good AND bad reviews for say a waitress. Serve me well and you get a good tip AND a good word to your boss. Screw up and the tip goes down the toilet AND the boss gets a yelling at.

It might be your POV that's tired. There are times for honest criticism no doubt. But snarking on people cuz you think you're getting some kind of revenge is usually not effective and often backfires.

My man Lao Tzu is big on the concept I'm getting at. Like his line about the worst way to try to influence people is to condemn their conduct.

Hastily done, absolutely. Well planned, it has a good chance of success.

Might not always be trying to change and influence people. Sometimes, good old revenge is useful
