He says he failed to see how it would undermine his integrity and credibility. Notice that he doesn't seem to be aware that there might be something inherently wrong with a bishop living in a $2 million house. Something far more significant than his credibility has been undermined.

Have you ever met a recent Pastor or better that didn't live at least more affluently than his average victim?
Which group was it that used to take the vow of poverty? |

I think Franciscans do. Maybe some Hindus and some Buddhists. Dunno about any others. Perhaps you could provide additional insight?

I do not know of any of those that can seize funds from you without your consent. Their definition of poverty may be different than yours or mine. I do know that you can at any time stop giving into it.

True, I don't hang around ascetics, and so, do not know a damned thing through first-hand experience. I rely on the observations of others.
Not unlike how I understand cancer or cosmology or homosexuality. I accept that the reports of others are often equal to or better than my own. I also believe that such observations are testable against the observations of others or against my own experiences. So you're right, I don't know any such clergyman personally. |

So than what is your problem with that happening? You started this thread, it apparently has no effect on you.
