Because a 29 y.o. Mercedes S-klasse really NEEDS to have beeen driven regularly!
Dead storage is the worst thing for them. Sure, cosmetically, it ought to be pretty perfect throughout, BUT mechanically it could need lots of work to bring it back if it's been in dead storage for a long period of time. Rubber bits could dry out and shrink, the gas tank would be needing to be removed and drained, the fuel lines and fuel lines could be trouble, the rotors could have seized up, possibly the cylinder walls could be too dry/rusted/changed shape from microscopic changes over the years, and the transmission and all other manner of moving parts could be in need of expensive attention... I would say this car COULD be a keeper IF and only if it received ALL maintenance and fluids refreshed on a time and not mileage based intervals - this includes brake fluid, coolant, engine oil, and transmission fluids....etc. A pretty good bet would be a w126 car that had been lightly but regularly driven, for 29 years, with records and garaged. @ 5k per year that would be 145-150k on the clock! And still could potentially be the BEST bet... People seem fixated on low mileage to the exclusion of ALL else. I do not believe this is a particularly good idea, especially with the w126 s-klasse cars...
