Yesterday, I saw going down the freeway a Sprinter pickup with duallies, that was slick! Is this standard or an option? Or do you have to build one for yourself? Just curious, -c-

The pickup bed or the duallies? Duallies are standard on the higher capacity chassis. Pick up beds are standard in Europe. I've seen them with drop down sides. Haven't seen any in the USA.

I like the idea of cutting Sprinters up, but it sounds like they didn't go far enough. It'd be best to keep cutting until there's nothing larger than a breadbox...

Cab over type flat bed trucks have been widely used in Europe for decades. In Germany ca. 1969, my girlfriends Dad, a farmer, had a really worn out old Mercedes cab over type flatbed. It had a really early diesel four cylinder with probably less horsepower than my lawnmower, but he loved that old truck.

You can get the Sprinter with a cutaway chassis, which allows you to attach any bed or box to the rear that will bolt up.

That's called a "cab & chassis." Most every truck maker provides them. I haven't been to Europe since the sprinter was introduced, but it wouldn't surprise me if the cab & chassis is more popular there than the van version.

Except that the Sprinter doesn't have a chassis. It's a unibody van.

Doesn't matter. You can buy a Sprinter in the US with a cab in front and a flat structure (frame, unit body, whatever) that would accept a pickup bed.

It was probably an OM636, they last forever and were in the first Bundeswehr Army Unimogs after WW2.
