Ah Choo 2014

Here are the worst cities for spring allergies in 2014:

1. Louisville, Kentucky
2. Memphis, Tennessee
3. Baton Rouge, Louisiana
4. Oklahoma City
5. Jackson, Mississippi
6. Chattanooga, Tennessee
7. Dallas
8. Richmond, Virginia
9. Birmingham, Alabama
10. McAllen, Texas

These so-called allergy capitals are ranked based on pollen levels, use of allergy medications and the number of board-certified allergists in the area.

Louisville has moved up the list from No. 5 last year because of higher-than-average pollen counts, high use of allergy medications and too few allergy specialists, according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.

New York; Columbia, South Carolina; and San Antonio are new to the top 20. Only Los Angeles residents can breathe a sigh of relief; the city fell 39 places from No. 38 last year to No. 77 this year.

The relatively late spring in some areas also means that there's going to be more overlap with summer (grasses) allergens.

Have to say, it hasn't been bad thus far. I think the foliage cycle is retarded by about three weeks due to the hard winter -- some trees only started budding a week to a week and a half ago.

Got my first ever Kenalog shot in February. Easiest allergy season in my entire LIFE. I think it's wearing off a bit now. Doc said it's good for 2-6 months. I didn't grow a hump or anything....

Surprised nothing in the Central Valley made the list; everyone I know is practically incapacitated from allergies right now

I can fake a very convincing and powerful sneeze. I have fooled many people with it.

I'm also allergic to over 15 different pollinators in the area, along with dust, cats, and dogs, so I have plenty of real sneezes as well. Zyrtec, nasal sprays, and immunotherapy all help, thankfully.

We have the winter Juniper woes here, there are three different native types. Then, in Feb-March, the Arizona Cypresses do the same number. The orange pollen wafts off the trees like heavy smoke with the slightest breeze. Until this year, I spent the entire spring with swollen eyes and constant rhinitis. STEROIDS FTW!!!
