Combating Mildew

I recently acquired a large collection of National Geographics. Mostly from the 60's thru 2000's. but quite a lot from the 30's and 40's as well. Some of the older ones are in poor shape and will have to be discarded. But there are some of them that are physically fine, no signs of mold, mildew etc but they have been packed with the ones that are in poor shape so long that they have that kind of mildewy smell to them. Is there any way I could counteract this? I want to keep as many as possible but if even the good ones have a bad smell about them the I don't see much chance of that.

- Peter.
