Karachi Pakistan Airport

""The main goal of this attack was to damage the government, including by hijacking planes and destroying state installations," said Shahidullah Shahid, a Taliban spokesman. " CBS TV news said it was retaliation for drone strikes. "Another security source said the militants were highly trained and carried large backpacks filled with dried fruit and water, suggesting they were in for a long siege." Taliban launch deadly, night-long attack on high-profile Pakistan airport | Reuters What a cluster.

Given the rations they carried it seems they had some sort of plan which was thwarted.

Here is a link to avenging the drone attack.

Update as of 2:30 a.m. EDT: Pakistani Taliban commander Abdullah Bahar has claimed that the attack on Jinnah International Airport in the Pakistani port city of Karachi, is to avenge the death of Hakimullah Mehsud, the militant outfit's former head who was killed in a drone attack in November, CNN reported Monday.
Pakistani Taliban Leader Says Plan Was To Hijack A Plane At Karachi Airport, Warns Of 'Worse Attacks'

I am not sure I get the logic of going after Pakistan's civilian infrastructure to avenge USA drone attacks.

If they stole the 777, why not launch it from wherever it was landed? Bringing it to Karachi would draw too much attention, unless they had a public unveiling of hostages (a la Dawson's Field) in mind.

The Pakistan Government and Military have long been feeding at the Drug Trade Trough that helps fund the Militant Muslim Groups. At the same time it was feeding at the USA Trough and would not let the USA strike severely into Tribal Territory where the Militant Muslims live.

Since the Militant Muslims are against any form of Government but a Theocracy it is logical that they would eventually attack Pakistan.
If they succeed they gain control of Pakistan’s Military and Nuclear Capability.

Or it could simply be that they want to cut the Pakistanies out of their Cut of the Drug Money.

In order for this sort of Terrorism to work the Government involved has to care about what happens to the common People.

My point was, that it CAN'T be flown, so they need another plane and Karachi has plenty....

Why then would they look for a spot to launch the other plane? Isn't the other plane proximate to a runway already?

I am not sure I get the logic of going after Iraq after 9/11 rather than Saudi Arabia where most of the 9/11 hijackers came from.
