That case is a travesty from the get-go. I'm glad the family has managed to prevail, but what an awful ordeal.

I don't think I would have remained sane after the ordeal. I doubt I would have taken the high road here.

I've had dealings in the past with Children's Services, but they've seemed to end well. None of it was against me, but the welfare of the kids wasn't up to par a number of times when they lived with their mom. Lack of food, physical abuse, verbal abuse, etc. I'm just glad it worked out on my side in the end.

My heart really goes out to that family.

I'm glad it went your way but what if CPS didn't go your way and they didn't investigate enough and simply passed the kid's mom? This is what I see is the problem. We want an individual to overrule CPS when it suits us from hindsight and to follow procedure and investigate when it doesn't. Not sure how that can work. In the case of Dahmer, they didn't investigate enough and simply ruled it as a couple's spat and returned the boy they thought was a man. People were upset. In this case, based on what I read, they performed a through investigation, I suspect at the behest of the mindfawk who had a diagnosis of his own and made the case around it.

If they don't follow procedure and something good happens, we cheer. OTOH, if something bad happens, we want a head or two to roll. If they follow procedure and something good happens, the process is good. If not, the process sucks. Maybe we should determine a procedure and as long as it is followed, STFU when it comes to the executioner of the procedure. Sure, we can change it but not on a whim when it is convenient.

*EDIT* Aklim has it about right. When kids are seriously abused in some hellhole by a whack job parent, people are outraged about the incompetency of the state. And when mistakes are made the other direction, more howling. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Usually there are statutes that make it very hard to get redress. If childrens services blunder it normally is very hard to hold them to account as a result.
