The windows in our house blow, but thanks to the HDC we're stuck with true divided panes. Personally I think vinyl, double-pane replacements with decorative muntins on boths sides look better than inefficient single-panes with aluminum triple track storm windows screwed to the outside. Unfortunately that opinion isn't shared by the powers that be. I have used a couple cheap, vinyl replacements from Home Depot in a couple windows that the frames had rotted out on and even those have held up quite well over the past 10 years and look decent enough. Much warmer by them in the winter as well.
Let us know what you decide on and how you like them. I will be using something better and more efficient on the backside of the house since it's not visible from the street.
