I was expecting the smart to be shoved backwards at the very least. A whole lot of the energy went into the crumple zones - quite impressive - so long as both cars have those zones!

Each vehicle was travelling at 50km/h - 30 mph - serious damage ensues at these "low speeds"

I never was seriously interested in an S-class until a pickup hit me head on while I was sitting at a stop sign. Now I might actually buy a big car. Defensive driving isn't enough anymore. You have been warned.

If they'd allow us to get the diesels here, I'd drive one.

I have a regular customer whose brother is a dealer in Canada so he (the customer) has a Smart diesel with dealer plates on it here in CT. He gets 70+ MPG with it.

Here's what S class vs Smart car really looks like without the fancy editing.

Another one, C class vs Smart.

All the safety equipment in the world can't change physics. The passengers of the Smart car will experience much higher G loads than the passengers of the S class or even C class.

I'm not understanding. Did it say that the Smart was significantly lower when it came to forces on the bodies in the car?

My next car will be smaller. Why? Because screw what the worry-warts and safety-nancies think.

Screw this, fawk that isn't really a logical reason. More like talking tough. OTOH, if there was some science behind it, fair enough.

I would. They aren't paying so they have no opinion you have to listen to. If Dad is buying me a car, I will take his input seriously. If you aren't paying for it, why is your opinion important? If you have some scientific information, it goes up a notch. Otherwise it is an opinion and everyone has one.

And if he can afford it, he can drive the Weinermobile for all I care. Not our business.

My current car hits the scales at 4,400 lb., and that's just fine with me. Too many F-250's running around to futz around with something so stupid as a Smart.
